E3 2013: Ubisoft Announcements/News Recap

Rocksmith 2014 Announced

At Ubisoft's E3 press conference, the company announced Rocksmith 2014. During the presentation, Kinect functionality was shown off, allowing the player to choose specific instruments to jam with.

The game is coming this October and includes "Stone" by Alice in Chains as a confirmed song. No platforms were confirmed, but since Kinect was used during the demo, it's a good bet it's coming to Xbox 360 and/or Xbox One.

South Park: The Stick of Truth Gets a Release Window

At today’s Ubisoft E3 press conference, the publisher announced that South Park: The Stick of Truth will be coming out in the holiday season of 2013. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a more specific release date given.

As you may remember, South Park: The Stick of Truth was originally to be published by THQ. When THQ went bust, Ubisoft acquired the rights. Obsidian Entertainment – the studio responsible for Fallout: New Vegas and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords – is still behind South Park’s development.

And yes, it remains a current-gen game, and will launch on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Ubisoft Confirms The Crew for Xbox One and PS4

Ubisoft has confirmed last month's rumor that Ivory Towers and Ubisoft Reflections, the team behind Driver: San Francisco, are working on a new racing game called The Crew for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The next-gen racer places an emphasis on arcade action similar to Burnout and Need For Speed, but treads new ground by bringing the genre into the MMO space.

A CG trailer shown at Ubisoft's E3 press conference highlighted a group of cars running from the police across a variety of American cities. The trailer ended with the phrase "Never Drive Alone," as well as confirmation of an "Early 2014" release date. A demo in New York City was also shown.

Watch Dogs

Just Dance 2014 Announced

Ubisoft announced the 'next generation' of its hit party game, Just Dance, to the heady beats of A-Ha at its E3 media briefing today.

Nicki Minaj, Psy, David Guetta and One Direction were amongst the artists confirmed for the game, while 6-player dances, On-Stage mode and Just Dance DJ were features highlighted. You can be the 'party master' if playing on a Wii U GamePad, which sounds slightly ominous.

Just Dance 2014 is confirmed for release on every console October 2013 .

Rabbids Invasion TV Show Announced

Ubisoft has announced an interactive television show airing on Nickelodeon and starring the Rabbids. The show is called Rabbids Invasion, and it's "coming soon."

Using Xbox One you'll be able to interact with actions on the show, with each episode featuring interactive missions. You'll also be able to solve puzzles using your voice, play observation games and participate in motion-control challenges. Players can also use Kinect to throw eggs at Rabbids.

Open World Tom Clancy RPG The Division Announced

Ubisoft has announced a new open world RPG from Massive entertainment set in the Tom Clancy universe called The Division, headed to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The Division focuses on a 2001 operation called Darkwinter, which "revealed how vulnerable we've become." A trailer explained that society has become "fragile" and "complex" and noted that consumers spend millions on Black Friday and discusses how a pathogen could wipe out shoppers simply by being passed along via cash.

The trailer discussed how after a few days, the stock market would collapse, we'd lose power, and much more as society essentially collapsed. "Directive 51," signed in 2007, is said to be be preventing that.

The trailer asked "what will it take to save what remains?" The Division takes place three weeks after the infection -- an event known as Black Friday -- hit New York City. A demo took place in Brooklyn.

Which Ubisoft game, if any, are you most excited for?

I'm definitely, extremely excited for Watch dogs, although The Crew does sound interesting and I'm curious to see how good the new AC is (the franchise has been growing a bit stale IMO) and The Division.

Yah you could build a gaming pc for about that. Who does microsoft think will buy this? What all the "bros" who play cod and nba2k?

It is a shame that "Joe Sixpack" won't know that this is true, walk into the nearest Best Buy, and buy a console that he just plugs into the TV and wall outlet. :(

Ubisoft did have a really good showing (with the exception of an "interactive TV show" that I will not talk about) with things like an open world game featuring all of the USA, another open world game featuring third-person shooter, RPG, and survival elements while integrating a meaningful mobile interface (not just tracking stats and changing loadouts; there were a few others at E3 but this one was the most meaningful in my opinion), and an interesting semi-casual free-to-play action game.

Just to make things unnecessarily abstracted. Anyways, Titanfall looks great, I'm impressed by the Frostbite 3 engine (though reserving final judgement for the non-scripted stream from their setup on the floor) and Xbox One is still pandering to publishers without adding anything significant for consumers (not new info, but they didn't exactly say anything to contradict that). At least none of the exclusives were really that vital to me.

Looks like EA has competition that doesn't ea their games. The Crew looks MUCH better than the new NFS that EA announced, with a VERY eaed cinematic trailer. EA doesn't even show real gameplay and we can still tell its going to be eaed:)
