Hi, I am looking to upgrade from my iphone 4. I am a light user, mainly using it for emails, videos, and the occasional game. Recently, my iphone has been getting very slow and battery life isn't what I would like. I have heard some good things from the nexus 5, so I was thinking of upgrading to that because of the price and os. Are there any other phones I should look into? What would you recommend?

OnePlus One

LG G3

Samsung Galaxy S5

Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Nexus 6

Moto X

BUY SAMSUNG, AND WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!

And to answer your question, the Nexus 5 is still very worth the price.

The display is a bit disappointing though.

I am looking for an off contract phone in the $300-$500 price range I am willing to make sacrifices on stuff like the speakers and camera because the screen quality is the most important part for me. A good addition would be a sd card slot because I like to use my phone as a mobile media collection.

If you want people to know you've replied, you need to quote their post like this, or tag them like this @guardsman6

Do you like bigger phones or smaller phones?

If you're fine with the iPhone 4 size wise, I'd take a look at the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. It has a 4.6" screen, isn't much bigger at all than your phone, has top of the line specs, a beautiful screen, SD card slot, and if you're a student you can grab one unlocked for about $477.

Nexus 5 is still a great phone for the price, lollipop has added a lot of really nice features to the phone. And it's a nexus device, so software updates will be plenty and fast.

The camera has improved greatly and battery life has gotten a bit of a boost. The display is nice, a bit neutral on colors and not overly saturated like a Samsung phone. It has the best Android experience of any phone you can get right now (Nexus 6 isn't officially out yet).

It's a one of the best phones you can get for the price, even after  a year it has really kept its value IMHO

P.S. I owned a Nexus 5, overall it was a great experience!

The Nexus 5 is a mediocre phone. Like most Android phones, it has some trade offs that you may find to be a turn off, primarily the not so stellar camera and battery life. With Snapdragon 810 coming in the next batch of high end smartphones, you might be better off waiting for them, although it'll take about 6 months before they actually arrive.

I just got the OnePlus One and I love it. Screen is really nice, the IPS is a little weird to get used to when using the OLED on my Galaxy S3 for 2 years, but it is still great. Battery life is phenomenal, I can easily go a whole day with about 4-5 hours of screen on.

Nexus 5 is well cheap and only smartphone that beats it atm is OnePlus One. Since there is a threath on the forum about their terrible customer support i would recommend Nexus 5. :)

I have one myself and like it. However im one of many who cant get their wifi working. Since im on unlimited data contract i dont really mind.

As for battery, im light user too. I dont touch the phone at home only if im on the go or on the break at work. I only game for 30 minutes max, watch youtube and browse a lot. My brightness level doesnt go over 30%, ever.

By the end of the day (wake up at 10am, charge phone to full, go to sleep at 3am)

I have 25 ish percent left. I put my phone to airoplane mode while im working.

So i get roughly 4 hours of medium-heavy use on my phone.

Cant wait for Lollipop battery saving mode to see the difference.

You all have valid responses, but I personally think that he one+one is for me because of the sd card slot, good screen and decent camera over the nexus 5. If I can get my hands on it... The nexus 5 would probably still be my backup though.

Theres always someone offering invites. Even right now theres a topic in same forum section :)
