I have an OEM version of Windows 8. I feel that windows 8 is a bit of a pain in the ass to use without that start button. I could just purchase start 8 for 5 dollars, but I just feel like going back to windows 7. So if I buy the Win8 to Win8PRO upgrade code from amazon, and then i upgrade to windows 8 prof, will i get downgrade rights? or should i just buy windows 7.

If i buy windows 7 Home Premium, It would be 95 dollars.

If i buy WIn8 to Win8PRO upgrade, it would be 70 dollars. And then i would downgrade to windows 7 professional with downgrade rights.

But do I even get downgrade rights? Or are those limited to the windows 8 pro that came with prebuilt computers.

Try ClassicShell, it's free and you really have tons of options (you can even set it so that you never have to see metro again).

Go to this sit and you can downlood the start button for win 8

linus did a vid about this

CheersRalph

The download is called classic start

I know, but that program is complete garbage to me.... I'd rather pay 5 dollars for start 8 if i wanted an elegant solution. And windows 8 generally annoys me because I don't really want to adapt to all the little changes which i learned from using XP and 7

Forums deleted my response..

How'd you install 7 originally?

I didn't install 7. I have Windows 8 right now.

I asked about downgrade rights. I know what programs are open to me, I've tried them all. So those kind of answers aren't really helping a whole lot :/

I was merely asking as if you say purchased a pre built system, you could just go back to that as the serial number would most likely be somewhere on the machine otherwise you can with proof of purchase request your license from the retailer.

Anyway, Windows 8 does not offer downgrade, however Windows 8 Pro offers downgrade to 7 Professional or Vista Business.

From the bulk of forums answers I've seen, I'm going to say no. It apparently isn't a supported option if you used an upgrade kit.

I see no reason to leave Windows 8 considering what it would cost you.

Just spend $5 on Start8 (yeah, there are free ones, but Start8 is pretty :P) and you can essentially eradicate the Metro interface from your daily usage. Set the Windows key to open the Start8 menu, set the desktop to open immediately when you log in, disable all the hot corners, and BAM, no more Metro. You can even uninstall all the Metro apps (except for Store, of course) if you want to.

And Windows 8 is fast. Definitely snappier than Windows 7.

Sure, you won't have Aero Glass, but ehhh, not a big deal. I wouldn't pay upward of 70 dollars just for Aero Glass.

I don't see why you don't like Windows 8. Perhaps you don't have the Start Screen setup correctly.

This is mine, for inspiration.

What I like about it, is that you can pin anything you want, any folder you like... you are not limited like the Start Menu.

Plus you can search your stuff like in Windows 7, just type in the start screen, and it searches.

You should get used to it, as it wont' go away, and you should check out the new keyboard shortcuts of Windows 8.

Also Windows Music app has free music streaming of 30million songs (that's very close to iTunes) it's unlimited for the first 6 month, and then 10h limit per month (which is plenty). So why buy music anymore, unless it's something you really like. If you are interested, you can get for 10$ a month the XBox Live Pass, and that gets you unlimited streaming, unlimited download (playable on Windows 8/RT/Phone, XBox 360, or Zune MP3 player), and the subscription also works with the Zune desktop software which uses the same library of music, so if you prefer a desktop app, that's the one. There is a 30day trial too.

Plus, as for games, you have access to more and more XBox 360 indi games, on Windows 8 store (they are being slowly converted).

And lets not forget the long list of cool Windows 8 features.

As cool as windows 8 is, I never said it was a bad software. I just don't have the willpower to get used to it. And all I really need windows to do is run chrome and games. I just ended up giving my copy of Windows 8 to my mom(i bootcamped her iMac) and bought a copy of windows 7 professional from amazon cause it was about 3 dollars cheaper than NCIX

Ouch! Windows 8 on Mac is horrible due the piss poor drivers made by Apple (most likelly on purpose). Already, Windows 7 just recently started to work and provide the same experience as if it was installed on a PC (non-Mac system is what I mean) on a Mac. A lot pf people are reporting of BSODs and other issues.

I say learn how to use it. Windows 8 offers some great benefits, and once your past the learning curve, im certain you wont look back. You have learnt how to use smartphones, tablets, and a hole bunch of other stuff, so why not learn Windows 8. Don't think of Window 8 as a 'downgrade' to an older version simply because it is the most substantial recent upgrade to the Windows OS. Don't you feel happier that when buying Windows 8, you are truly buying something more than Aero glass and a differently shaped start button?
