Protective enough?

Go to solution Solved by Nadeemz,

You are probably fine with that case if you are just going to throw it in a bag . and Linus won't review these headphones because he doesn't find them as great as people make them out to be but your opinion may vary

Hi guys! I am looking to buy a set of Audio-Technica ATH-M50X's, from what I hear and see these are great headphones with brilliant reviews! I am curious about the protective pouch, will this be protective enough? The build quality on the m50x's is superb, Can you tell me if I will need to buy a different case to fully protect these?

P.S Linus should review these ;)

What do you mean by fully protect? Are you going to subject the headphones to a harsh environment?

Something like this?

j/k

The pouch will keep the headphones from getting dusty or scratched...

Not actually. The build quality is mediocre at best. All plastic, and not even a dense, hard, thick plastic. Just plain plastic. It's just one of those 'handle with care' type of thing.

Besides, if the build quality is indeed superb, then you won't need to worry about case protection so much, will you?

Best protection is from hardcases like the pelican hard case from LCD series. Of course that kind of case is pricier than the headphone itself. Other option, just search 'headphone hard case' in amazon

The build quality is much better than most headphones and the reviews I saw said that they wouldn't really need a seperate case, I'm just being sure...

I will just be taking them on the bus to school and such :)

In that case--what @Tagiau posted. The pouch protects from scratches and the headphones aren't exactly flimsy.

So you don't believe I will need to buy a protective case?

I don't think that's necessary at all.

Okay! Thanks also do you think using these would be alright for gaming if I added a modmic?

Sure--I got my friend a similar combination with the difference being M50's instead of M50x.

In term of build quality, I've owned a cheap $25 Clarion headphone that got far better build quality than the M50. It has been sat on, thrown to the desk, dropped from the desk to the floor, cable yanked, etc, and it still kept going like nothing happened.

As for M50, just google 'broken m50' to get some ideas.
