The cost is offset somewhat by the case which is about half the price of the Phanteks, added four case fans since the Merc Alpha only comes with one. Added a CPU cooler and 4690k since that H97 board can overclock once it's given a bios update. The SSD I swapped out for something with better price per GB, the SP900 is superior to the SP600 because it uses a Sandforce controller, not quite as in demand as Marvell, but still good. WD Caviar Blue costs less than the Barracuda.

All in all this spec can overclock and the cooler will do it's job, it's only increased the price of the revised spec by $50. This build suit you more?

It says the graphics card may block drive bays... IS that a massive problem or are there alternitives?

It will only be a problem if you intend to use all of the drive bays. You only have 6 Sata ports on that mobo, so you'd need to use 5 HDD's for it to be a problem. It has an SSD mount too so that won't be a problem.
