Is there a problem with my CPU?

Hello I was just testing my CPU with Prime 95 and monitoring my temperatues with HWMonitor and within 10 seconds of starting Prime 95 my temperature is at 100c. Is this a bad temperature for it to be at? I have not done any overclocking.

Oh balls YES! you need to remount your CPU cooler. and if that is done correctly with a good amount of pressure it should fix it. IF NOT RMA that thing if you can.

That's a HORRIBLE temperature to be at. That's 5 degrees away from melting. What CPU do you have and what cooler are you using? And, what clock speed/voltage is being applied?

I've been requested to change it - that was like 2 years ago. I still haven't done it, but have considered doing so.

I watched all of 10 seconds and thought "WTF" as I moved on with my life. I hope it was dead. I feel like in the shape it was in that it wouldn't be able to live a decent life.

The guy that built it didn't mount the CPU cooler properly. Is my best guess.

that is very very very bad ,probably  problem with thermal past not being applied correctly (85%posibitly) , not good enough cooler (40% possibility ) , CPU need delidding and thermal past reapplied (5%)

yea, a 100C right off the bat is a poorly mounted cooler. If it was built for you ask the person who did it if he/she didn't forget to apply thermal paste or something like that. Also might be a problem, even if it's placed correctly into place. And plz don't use the computer for now... you're literally melting it's brains out. (well... that's a bit of an exageration but close enough)
