Laptop "No Audio Output Device is Installed"

Humble Bee

I have a HP Envy 4 laptop and last week the audio went after having been connected to an external monitor via HDMI. Now the laptop speakers no longer work. using external speakers doesn't work either. Neither do head phones. There is no audio period.

I started by running windows troubleshooter, which was absolutely useless in providing any useful information to a fix as usual.

I suspected a driver issue. So I opened device manager to see if there was any issues. I was correct. "High Definition Audio Controller" had an issue.

So I click on the faulty driver to see what was wrong. Apparently the driver is corrupt...

So I un-installed the driver and downloaded the audio driver from HP's website for my specific laptop. I then installed the new drivers. Same problem... apparently driver corrupt. how can this be it was a new download straight from HP for my specific laptop which they even identified using the laptop hardware checker...

I don't know what do do :(

Any help will be much appreciated. I need audio as I use this laptop daily for work and leisure.

Try uninstalling drivers and installing the ones straight from Realtek

Thought I would just add this screen shot in. Does it mean the sound card has gone in my laptop? as it says that there is no audio devices.

Nope, still didn't work is it possible the audio card / chip in my laptop has gone? Its still under warranty but I want to avoid the loss of my laptop for 2-4 weeks if possible.

This laptop has been nothing but problem i've had it for 8 months and 2 months ago the LCD Panel failed (black screen) and now I think the audio chip has failed.

Maybe just Windows glitched. Try putting a Linux distro on a USB, booting off of that and seeing if sound works in Linux

Thank you for the thought @STRMfrmXMN , but that was the first thing I tried to. If you look at my original post. The first image shows the result of this. Apparently "hardware changes might not have been detected". But no hardware changes have been made so I'm lost. Thank you anyway :)

Ah, I thought you just used the all-in-one troubleshooter solution...

Sorry about that.

EDIT: Has Linux been installed yet? I know you said you were worried about making a mistake but you can use LiLi USB and Ubuntu and you're set. Installing an OS isn't hard.

Has Linux been installed yet?

It is downloading at the moment but it wont be till tomorrow morning that I start the install as I feel its too late to do it tonight. I will keep people updated to whether I find a solution.

Thanks to everyone for your help though.
