What to upgrade.

So my current desktop is getting out of date and I haven't paid any attention to hardware since I built it. I currently have an I5 2500k with a p67 board 4GB 1333 ram and a GTS 450. 

 

My mobo only supports up to pci x16 2.0, so oblivious at least upgrade the mobo and gpu. But I wanted some options on if I should just get a new mobo for my cpu or get a whole new setup?

There isn't a difference between PCIE 2.0 and 3.0, a 3.0 card will work in a 2.0 slot without any problems/bottlenecks.

You should be fine with the motherboard. I'd just upgrade the GPU and the RAM.

Save a major system upgrade for Pascal. Your CPU should do all right if you overclock it.

PCIe 3.0 doubles the bandwidth. So, there is a difference, it just doesn't currently equate to a huge performance difference.

2500k is fine. 8gb ram and a new gpu?

Don't worry about the PCIe slot bottlenecking anything. The only thing it would probably bottleneck is a dual GPU card, even then I think it would only be minor.

Okay thank you all for saving me from buying a new mobo. I think I am going to upgrade ram and GPU. Any GPU recommendations between 170 - 230 USD?
