Sony are well-known in the industry for low input lag. (I bought one this year)

Picture fidelity would be easier found by jumping to 4K, but it's not that cheap to drive.

 

It also depends on where you are. Best Buy have a 39" 1080P "Element" television. I have one, and it looks fantastic. And it's not expensive either.

Sony or Sharp are the main ones that stand out in terms of gaming input lag and response times.

120hz is not something you will ever find in a tv. It's just marketing, 120hz tv's actually only take 60hz input but can produce smoother images by guessing what frames would look like in between frame and producing their own frames if that makes sense. Awful for gaming though because it introduces more lag.

Obviously, most of them have no idea how bad the input lag can be on HDTVs including well-known brand and not well-known one. Most good Sony ones have input lag below 20ms while many HDTV reach 120ms input lag. And set each video source you will be using for gaming on ''Game Mode''.

Well to be fair I just bought a 55" westingtonhouse tv a month ago on a great deal and so far the input lag is so minimal I can't really feel it unless I focus on it.

I rather check websites that test HDTV with proper testing device like Guru guys with power supply instead of buying a model and do a eyeball test.

Yeah I can definitely check sites like displaylag.com, but I'm also trying to take visuals into account, readable text, etc.

Well, I have used an hdtv as a computer monitor.  The gigantic 1080p display doesnt exactly give you the sharpest text or best image but, it can still be great for gaming or video.  I have a 46" vizio hdtv and I have to turn down the brightness, back lighting and contrast by considerable amounts to make looking at the thing bearable to my eyes.  So this is a downside of using HDTVs as PC monitors.       

 

Still, the real estate that you get when using an hdtv as a pc monitor can be pretty awesome, especially when you supplement that with a higher resolution PC monitor.  At times when the hdtv is not needed, I'll just use the smaller PC monitor and leave the hdtv turned off.  

 

I would say vizio is on the low end and sony is high end.

3D TV's can have 120hz.

I'm currently looking at a VIZIO M422i-B1 42-Inch as everything I can find says it's actually a native 120hz panel, but I'm concerned about EDID issues getting it to go native 120hz on a PC.  DisplayLag.com has the series around 25-26ms input lag, which is fine, I'm not playing a lot of fighting games or competitive FPS' on this.  Any thoughts?
