Who has the most overkill setups for the intended use?

asim1999

So like, quad 980/ titan sli, i7 5930k, 64gb RAM, water cooling, etc? Thousands. of people.

You just basically wrote what I was going to write spare for a 1600w power supply and a bunch of SSD's in a RAID.

Well.. I think my current build right now is overkill for the games i play..

I have gtx 970 with an I5 4690k and I play dota 2 on 1080p.. My older computer from 3 years ago.. could run the same game in the same settings with same frames. I guess I just wanted to build something cause i was bored.. but i do plan on being more adventurous with more demanding games so I can justify it..

My storage is also overkill for what I do... I have a 256 crucial ssd and a 2 TB WD black.. I have used a total of like 100 GB

Good news is.. my dad now gets to use my old "overkill" computer to surf the web and play chess.

I guess this can turn into a debate about what I mean by overkill

Well your thread was poorly defined so what can you expect?

90% of the time, my i3 4160/GTX 650 with 2 1280x1024 monitors is overkill.

90% of the time my poor system is at 100% CPU load, so you could say it's underkill. (pent D. I'm poor :( )

Rig in profile. Mostly light gaming, browsing and watching movies/anime at 1080p. This could have been done with a Pentium G as overkill. I'm thinking of building my next rig at my parents house based on a quad core APU, no need for overkill graphics and the APU's run fine at 720p gaming. :)

OMG that makes my 980 with a 1280x1024 VGA monitor look under-powered

I would suggest a 144hz 1440p freesync monitor instead. Will get higher framerates and so will be more enjoyable to game on for much longer

You're using quad 980's? You don't need that for App Inventor and Python pal ;)

I7 4790k and 970.

I play Sim City 4 and CounterStrike Source.

And minecraft.

I don't know why, but I only get 90-150 FPS.

"Normandy" i7 4790K - GTX 970 - Phantom 410 (Gun metal) - Z97 Extreme4 (asrock) - 128GB Crucial SSD - 1TB WD HDD - H60 Refurb. - 7 case fans | G710+ Keyboard, G230 Headset, Acer GN246HL Monitor.

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

144hz is love. 144hz is life. I like to submit unfinished posts then do about 20 edits. I like the Night Theme too.

Get a 144hz g-sync monitor then then FPS will be justified

EDIT: see that u have one, then it isnt overkill, get g-sync to balance out the FPS
