So my dad brought home what i believe to be a server tower. I will post pics up soon if anyone can identify what it is. But all i know is that it still has a floppy disk drive and it has a windows sticker from 2003 on it. So what ever it is, its old and its key locked. Im will break it open and post the pics. What should i do with it?

install ubuntu 12.04:

set up a home NAS via SIMBA Server

set up an FTP (usefull to transfer stuff to and from your server from anywhere)

set up VNC/SSH to allow you to remove into it from anywhere

and if you really want somthing tricky then set up your own VPN to allow you to bypass filters/blocks in places (cough school/college)

just dont forget to secure it via UFW firewall + fail2ban script to autoban to many authentication failures.

Post some pix... I love those server towers. If you know how to fabricate aluminum, it can be turned into a PC.

If you have an fast connection (fiber prefered!) you can setup your own cloudservice... like an dropbox or something like... its just you control everything or an vpn... or an power eating server that runs boinc? (my stepfather has 3 server doing that... and complains about electric billts everytime I visit them >.>)

PLEASE QUOTE OR TAG (WITH @) ME IF YOU REALLY REALLY REALLY WANT ME TO REPLY!!!!!!!

Despite the outside looking so bad the interior looks really clean. Here is the pics http://imgur.com/a/W0ECY

I worked out it is a HP Proliant ML350 G4p. It has 2 Xeon cpus installed(3.2ghz). The inside is very clean compared to the outside, this may actually be usable. Whoever had it last removed the hardrives and took the 2 hardrive slots along with it so yeah, i should be able to fix that up.
