richland + hd7950

Go to solution Solved by FloRolf,

As Theo said, APUs are for people without external gpus. Better get an FX-6300 or around those lines.

If you are going to use a GPU, then you shouldnt be getting an APU, it kinda defeats the whole purpose.

Hey there. You are looking mighty fine today, have my virtual cookie!

Yup, as Theo said, have you already got the APU?

If not then look into something like an AMD 6300/8350 or a 3570k/4670k

The APU will not benefit you in terms of graphics performance whilst using a proper graphics card like the 7970.

APUs are meant for people who can't afford a graphics card but want to play casual games or games on lower settings

no real reason to go with an apu in a gaming system with a discreet card. remember that richland is still based off of bulldozer, you'd be better off going with a piledriver based cpu like the 8320 with is around the same price point as the A10-6800k

Edit: actually it might be based off of piledriver- still figuring that out

Okay, I was just trying to save some money :)

Will get the fx8350 then!

you could also consider the 8320 which is only clocked like 0.2ghz lower but costs 40bucks less. :)

Get a fx 8350 PileDriver CPU from AMD man. I have a FX 8350 @ 4.6 Ghz and a 7970 @1140Mhz on a Sabertooth 990 FX R2.0 and it works like a beast.

OK, but what about running dual-graphics? Like the A10-5800K and Radeon 6670 combo, and that gave comparable performance to a higher end dedicated GPU. Would the 6670 still be the "equal" to the graphics inside the new 6800K or would it be a higher card now?

crossfiring 2 lower end chips is nowhere near as good as a single GPU and a proper CPU.

I can tell you are trying to save money so if you tell us your budget we'll build the best machine possible

From what I know in the APU-world, an a10-5800k (dont know about the new one) in "hybrid crossfireX" with an hd6670 can be pretty surprising for a budget gaming pc :)

But you are right, if you got the budget, single gpu and good cpu aren't replacable. At the other hand, a "great" cpu/gpu combo for 500$ (cost of total rig with apu) is really hard to find ...

Thanks for the offer, but I only want to know what dedicated graphics card would be the closest match to the integrated graphics of the new 6800K please.

I think the maximum for crossfireX is still a 6670

Even if you could go higher you would not benefit from the extra power as the on board GPU is still very weak.

If you do insist on going down this route (which I would not recommend if you can afford not to), then get some 2133 Mhz memory as it will help to improve the fps of the onboard APU.

Don't forget that there aren't any high-end small form factor motherboards for AM3+. If you were planning on going SFF then an overclocked A10 on FM2 wouldnt be a bad thing seeing as people can still feed 7950s (not in crossfire) with overclocked Phenom II's (quad/hexa) @4ghz quite easily. So unless you're going SFF then go with something AM3+.
