How do you properly take care of you computer?

Trancendense

Hey guys.

I plan to move to pc gaming soon and I'd like to acknowledge myself on pc hardware and stuff. So what do you guys do to insure that your computer will have a good life spawn.

For example, I discovered recently that you had to clean your pc of dust around each two months (I didn't opened my pc in three years lol). What else should I be a aware of?

As long as you don't abuse it, a PC only really needs to be cleared of dust every 2-3 months. And you should watch your temps, if they get funky you should check out under the hood.

Cant say any more than that, and thats just what everyone else is gonna say

Dust it out ever so often and make sure your temps are well tamed. That's pretty much all when it comes to physically taking care of your hardware.

I have an NZXT Hue set to white light in my rig, and sometimes, I literally spend 5 minutes straight just looking at it, just admiring it.

I'm a type of person that worried when my videocards get over 70c. Same with my cpu.

I like to dust my pc once a week because.....

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

I was only 9 years old. I loved Fifflaren so much, I had all the NiP merchandise and matches pirated. I prayed to Fifflaren every night before bed. Thanking him for the life I have been given. Fifflaren is love I say. Fifflaren is life. My dad hears and calls me a fuckhead. I knew he was just jelly of my passion for Fifflaren. I called him a Sw@yer. He hits me and sends me to go to sleep. I'm crying now, and my face hurts. I lay in bed and it's really cold. A warmth is moving towards me. I feel someone touching me. I feel someone touching me. It's Fifflaren. I am so happy. He whispers in my ear; "this is my pyjama". He grabs me with his powerful Swedish hands and puts me on my hands and knees. I'm ready. I spread my ass cheeks for Fifflaren. He penetrates my butt-hole. It hurts so much but I do it for Fifflaren. I can feel my butt tearing as my eyes start to water. I push against his force. I want to please Fifflaren. He roars a viking roar as he fills my butt with his love. My dad walks in. Fifflaren looks straight into his eyes and says; "He is a ninja now". Fifflaren is love, Fifflaren is life

This.

Although I didn't dust my Dell for close to a year and it was fine. HELIOS hasn't been done in close to 3 months, I'd say, and it's good (positive pressure with dust filter on the front intake).

change your thermal paste every year or so

clean dust every few months

if you're water cooling, tighten your compression fittings every few weeks for the first couple months.

Do as I say, not as I do. @LinusTech 2014

I have abused my laptop to high hell and back, and it's proven to be built like a fucking tank. I've edited 1080p 30FPS video on it (editing on a Celeron is painful), used it on a bed, ran Prime95 AND IntelBurnTest at the same time, and I'm overloading the USB power supply (it should only be giving out 500mA but I'm drawing 1000mA with my calculator), in addition to having cleaned it once in it's 3 year lifespan. It's running like a boss today, right now, and the highest temp I have achieved is 68.8C (that's 156F, 'muricans). Don't do what I did.

not saying this is the optimal ruetine but its what works for me. hopefully it will for you too.

first of every month unplug from everything, monitor, power, everything.

if you have one drain your water loop, (if you made it yourself, non-custom loops dont need to be maintained)

clean and shine side panel window if your case has one, make sure everything is secure and all screws are tight. (not too tight.... you'll know. xD )

close it up and plug everything back in.

bot up and let updates for your OS and software do thier thing.

last desktop i had, this ruetine took me about an hour and a half each time, although with practise i was able to get it down to 20 minutes. (not including the updates, i live in a house where the owners erent interested in gettings fast internet speeds)

EDIT

also, make sure your temps are not too high, i think by now you already know that your cpu/gpu going above 70 is pretty scary and going too far above that is dangerious. (not for you, just your sytem, although a cpu operating at 10,000c might be dangerious to you. xD also cool to watch. xD)

malwarebytes is good.

personally i use webroot and malwarebytes together. but thats just cause webroot came free with this laptop. :P

malwarebytes is the only good free one i know of, heres the link:

https://www.malwarebytes.org

(free version is a ''trial'' but in my experience doesnt ever end, and is the full program, just slightly less features, also the premium version isnt all that expensive, 30 dollars a year is good)

its best to have two, one that takes care of older viruses, and one that stays up to date. (linus has a video on this, i forget if its on techquikie or ltt)

also dont do dumb things or sketchy things. xD

knowing how to descern between a ad and the actual download button, and not downloading things that are too good to be true are also smart.
