The reason for this thread... There's a current trend of topics asking for recommendations for a monitor, which don't give any details of what the OP is looking for. You might see such topics where the first post looks a little like this:

"Hi, I'm looking for a monitor, here's a link to my specs"

And that's it. The biggest problem with these types of threads is that the other users who are trying to help have no idea where to start. I mean, I could recommend an LG 34UC97, it's a great monitor. But, the number of people that's actually suited for is rather slim.

For the community to help, we need a little more info. If you're unsure of something, then feel free to ask, but at least give us something to work with. Otherwise, it can be a little frustrating to figure out the needs/wants of someone asking for help. Without further delay, here are the kinds of things you should be including in your post:

  1. What is your budget? Be sure to also list the currency, as not everyone on the forums are from the same place you are.
  2. For what purpose will you be using the monitor?
  3. TN or IPS? If you're unsure, then generally speaking
    • TN = Lower response times (Meaning lower motion blur/ghosting), colour reproduction not as accurate, capable of higher refresh rates. Generally better for more competitive games
    • IPS = Capable of more accurate colour reproduction, locked to 60Hz unless overclocked, generally more susceptible to motion blur, but not always
  4. What resolution are you looking for? 1080, 1440p or 4k. If you're looking for a less common aspect ration, such as 16:10 or 21:9, be sure to mention this as well
  5. What sized monitor are you looking for? 24", something smaller, something larger etc.
  6. Are you looking for a high refresh rate, or overclockable monitor?
  7. Last but not least since there are more and more of these hitting the market, if you want a G-sync monitor, you should probably mention that as well.
  8. Last but not least, are you doing some kind of multi-monitor setup, I've been seeing the number of those increase as well

I know it can be overwhelming because there are so many options and things to consider. Hopefully this will clear things up, and help us to help you better :)

-The more we know, the quicker we can answer that all important question, and move you one step closer to your next purchase

Meh, no offense but this thread is kinda useless. Why? Well because most of the morons who make threads like that just created their account or have very low post counts and don't use this forum much let alone read the CoC so if thats the case they are not likely going to read this either, it was a nice gesture though. Just my 2 cents.

Eh, I wrote this in all of about 3 and a half minutes. If it's useless, no skin off my back. Maybe change the title or something to make it stand out a little and catch the eyes of those users

Seriously, who actually reads CoC? Don't be a jackass, that's the CoC I live by online

This should definitely be shown whenever you want to ask something about monitor recommendations.
