5960x with 970 (then SLI 1 year later) vs 5820k with SLI 980s

Lazid

I am going to be using this for gaming, content creation for things like YouTube, streaming and just general use.

I'm not sure wether to get a 5820k and 2 980s now, when I'll only be playing 1080p for now - or a 5960x and a 970.

It's probably worth noting that if I do go for the 5960x option I will 99% be adding a second 970 when I upgrade to a 4k monitor. I'm aware they're both overkill for what I'm doing now, but I have the $$$.

Definitely go for the 5820k you dont need the 5960X at all. Get better monitors as soon as you can though. In my opinion though youll be fine with a 4790k. Save your self 500$

5820k if you are not going to use things like RAID cards or things like that. the only advantage(apart from the 2 cores) is the 12 extra PCIE Lanes. and your usage model is better suited for a 6 core. an 8 core is just overkill for your usage.

Heck I think even go for a Z97 setup with 2 980s and an i7-4790k. That's perfect for gaming, invest the other money into a 4k monitor or a steam library.

I vote 4790k, it doesn't seem like you'll be doing anything hardcore stressful to benefit heavy enough to spend way more money on a platform.

Only get x99 if you're actually doing content creation as a job and making money from youtube or something like that.

Just fyi, buying a 5960x does not automatically get you 100 subscribers.
