You can use fingernail polish remover. (Acetone) Just be carful and not get down in the socket or on any plastic. Its highly crosive. Just use a little and no smoking

 

Note: Rubbing Alcohol is one of the worse things to use. It contains mineral oil. Use 99% Isopropyl Alcohol

I read that some one used a toothbrush and water and it worked the same

 

As said a barely damp paper towel or coffee filter will work, the reason why isoproply alcohol is used most often is because it will help clean out the pores of the metal better and remove any small particles that may be there, but this is insignificant in affecting temperatures.
