chapeshiel

I have R9 290's in Crossfire and I am only getting 40-60fps in MINECRAFT. What is going on?

What are your minesweeper benchmarks?

JK

I'd rather ask on the minecraft forums, really weird.

Are you running any mods?

I know I felt weird posting it here but I know I could get some help. I am running no mods and it happened after I adjusted the core clock a little bit and then restarted my pc. I reverted the core clock to the default though...

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

Here's the problem- Chrome. Start Mincraft with Chrome shut and then proceed to open it; enjoy your newfound FPS! :)

I know it seems really simplistic, but it works for me. When I launch the game with Google Chrome open, I experience dramatic FPS drops and my FPS (despite running dual 670s) is about at 45-50fps. When I once randomly shut Chrome and opened Mincraft, it was at a rock solid 60. The key is to shut chrome before launching Minecraft. [i think other browsers too]

Let me know if it helps!

I had a problem in Minecraft where my CPU would just sit at idle clock speeds.  Think I had power saver on for Windows, or something stupid like that.

First of all, what resolution are you running at? I'm going to assume you're running at 1080p. Also, what CPU are you running? Minecraft is more intensive on the CPU than the GPU, and the processor is often a bottleneck for it.

A few things you need to try:

Turn render distance down. It's notorious for tanking framerates. My single R9 290 and 4670k only just runs at 60fps with more than about 20 chunks of render distance at 1440p. Minecraft is a horribly optimised game and many people associate the simple looking graphics with high performance; this isn't true for minecraft.

Update to the latest AMD drivers at http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

Make sure Java is up to date (I believe 8.0 is the latest version) and you are running the 64 bit version (which minecraft now supports). To download 64 bit Java, you need to download it using a 64 bit browser such as Internet Explorer.

Make sure Minecraft has enough memory allocated to it. In-game, press F3 and look at the right of the screen. If the memory percentage is at 100% then it might be worth giving the program more memory.

Try disabling crossfire. I don't think minecraft is known to be one, but some games misbehave when running in crossfire.

If you're playing modded, try a vanilla world and texture pack and compare the framerate. Running too many mods could be a problem.

Ensure you aren't running framerate limiters or your GPUs aren't thermal throttling by running MSI afterburner.

Failing that, you've reached the point where reinstaling programs may fix the issue.
