Nope not possible.

Well not really. I suppose you could dodge something up but the resulkt wouldn't be worth it.

Actually it is, it's pretty hard to find stores that sells the necessary parts (mostly the gpu, the rest it's relatively easier to get) but it's possible:

Edit: apparently most of the required parts can be purchased on http://www.rjtech.com/, "normal" compatible parts (RAM, SSD, 2.5 inches HDD and dvd/bluray burner(?)) can be found in normal stores.

Well there are certain companies that let you customise the specs of a laptop and I guess it is possible to do your self, just making sure that everything is actually compatible and fits though.

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy?

Yea, laptops are expensive. Especially gaming ones. There are some kits that you can build on to make your own laptop, but parts are still expensive.

Depending what you want to use it for, you can take a look at tablets.

Yes it's possible, yes you will hate it.

Building/repairing laptops is a pain in the ass..... so much so that when something breaks on one at work, unless it's ram/hdd/battery we just buy a new one rather than spend 5-6 man hours repairing it.

When the 8$ backlight goes out on your laptop, unless you've done it multiple times on a particular model, enjoy spending a full day getting the new one in there.

No you probably won't save any money.

It would be hard but I believe that you can get barebones laptop and just build it all up from there.

the very first time u open a laptop u learn that there are too many parts

that are custom made for that specific model or series:

heatsink, mainboard, case, fans, screens, hinges, keyboards, touchpad, etc, etc

the compatible parts are mostly: HDD, CPU, Rams, and some PCI devices like wifi and bluetooth.

So I would say u can basically improve a laptop, but create one out of nothing?

U might need to start with an empty case, and then start looking for parts that fits in....

u might end up building the same original laptop..
