sell it and buy a 970

Buy a 970 for sure.

SLI has some problems and doesn't always scale well.

970 all the way, and when that's outdated you can probably SLI that effectively.

I have 760 SLI. No problems AT ALL with scaling or extra power usage.

They are powerful and cheap now. No reason not to. Dual 760s compare to a 780ti.

970 will preform less but but out less heat and use less power.

Your choice. Also dual 760s look better and are a cheaper upgrade.

The 700 series is not old!

Oh the age old question

I have a rule about this . If it's a x80 ( 680 or 780 or 780 ti ) it's better to sli for one generation , then to get the top tier in the second generation

If you have a x60 or x70 or even lower ( 760 770 ) it's better to get the single card out of the next gen and sell the current one

No need for negativity.

But yes, buy a 970 for sure.

SLI has some problems and doesn't always scale well.

But, Dual SLI support is very broad. And scaling issues are more present with tri and quad SLI rather than dual.

So folowing my rule you'll get go

760 > 970 > 1080 ( or whatever they end up calling it ) > 1080 SLI > 1180

But we have a strange situation with 900 series.

Which was price changes and efficiency. Not performance.

So Dual SLI 760s are comparable to a 980 (Or 780ti)

I would not buy them. They would be the most sexy things on the planet. But probably explode in a fireball.

Lol what? They are bot comparable to a 980 at all. They are marginally comparable to a 970.
You can't be serious.  Hyperthreading is a market joke?

Look at the performance numbers.

A 780 is behind the 980 and the 980 is behind the 780ti.

Dual-760s have a benchmark score of ~3200 which is single 780ti area.

Which means they compare to a 980 in performance.

Check LTT's Unigine Valley Benchmark scores.

780 -- 980 -- 780ti

So 1 benchmark is how you base performance? Dude, it isnt even worth the discussion. SLI 760 does not equal 780ti/980 performance. I could show you numerous benchmarks that show 780ti destroying 760s

If it includes high texture quality. Then yes. 3GB will beat 2GB RAM. But in most cases people are not using that.

2GB is good for right now. And, you can get the 760 in 4GB RAM option.

Also, that benchmark is very widely used (Even by Linus)

2GB is pretty low in today's market, games will be reaching the limit of that in a heartbeat, lots already are.

If OP doesn't have a 4GB model, which is probably the case, then he wouldn't be able to utilize the 4GB on the second card, that is how SLI works.

SLI has been getting updates so that you can place your main graphics card as the 4GB one and your PhysX/2nd card as the 2GB one.

But that was my example with the benchmark. Not RAM usage.

@ScubaChase  OP, the 970 is simply the better option on all levels.

Performance will be better in most cases with the 970, thermals and overclocking will be fantastic. And you will get new features to boot. The price to performance on these new chips is amazing. The 970 is as good as the 780 from last generation, if not, better.

But the price to performance with getting a 2nd 760 now is better because they are super cheap.

I haven't heard about this.

Even if it is true my stance doesn't change.

The 970 will give you comparable performance in games that do scale well with SLI, and do way better in games that don't scale well with SLI.

There is no reason to get the SLI setup unless you really value the look of two cards in a system rather than increased reliability, performance and amount of features.

But in this case SLI is cheaper for more performance.
