Just swap it and replace the thermal paste.

If you're only swapping a CPU (same mobo) you should be fine. If you're swapping the mobo I'd reccomand a fresh install (although I got away with just installing the new mobo drivers).

If it were me I would do a clean install.

Why???

You can change CPUs with no problem at all, unless this requires changing your motherboard too.

There is absolutely no need to clean install windows.

I said "if it were me". Id much rather not have remnants of older drivers sitting with new chipset/cpu drivers. 

His question looked as if he wanted peoples opinions so I gave mine.

CPUs do not use drivers. Nothing changes at all when you swap a CPU.

It's like replacing a fan in your case. All you have to do is plug it in and it works.
