Ask the forum :P?

Pcpartpicker works too!

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Try http://pcpartpicker.com/

And of course you can always ask for suggestions on here. Just give some information on what you're planning on using the PC for (Gaming, video editing, etc.) and a budget.

it's much cheaper to build it yourself. And it's really easy. If you want use to suggest a build for you, follow the guide on the first post in this topic: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

We need to know all that before we can help you :P just the budget alone is not enough. And while 850$ is probably enough for like high setting BF4 at 60fps, if you have about 1000$ for the PC alone (not including monitor/keyboard/mouse) then you will get a much better PC, and it's a good starting point for PC Gamer :D

It can be extremely nerve racking to build your first PC, especially if your one to second guess yourself. You don't have the benefit of warranty and the liability is pretty much always on you if something happens. That aside there's a good chance you'll find self-assembly to be rather gratifying, and makes it easier to properly service your own PC for upgrades and at home troubleshooting. If you have someone who's had experience, having them looking over your shoulder while your spreading thermal paste and finding the right screw holes is useful. Prebuilts are hardly ever worth it, but most computer sites will offer to assemble PCs for a small fee (around $50-100), and most stores do price matching so you don't need to worry to much about finding the right deals.

About parts 'n' stuff:

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor  ($99.99 @ Amazon)

Are you using for desktop for video editing, recording, streaming to the internet or another PC via steam?

If you are I'd recommend getting atleast an i5 or an "8 core" AMD (PS: All the 8-core AMD CPUs are all the same with just different clock speeds).

I own an FX-6300 and I find it extremely annoying when I want to steam in-home stream since it can't keep up :/

About building:

  • Make sure you discharge yourself from static electricity, to do this I personally plug in the power cord into the wall but flip the switch on the power supply to off then regularly touch the case to ground myself

  • Make sure screws in what ever case you use aren't in the wrong positions, some manufactorers do this and you could potentially damage your motherboard by a) scratching your PCB b) short-circuiting some part of the motherboard

  • Make sure to apply thermal paste correctly with the pea method, here's a video explaining why

  • Get a quality power supply that is at least 80 plus bronze and be sure to check out reviews for the power supply (such as this site: http://www.jonnyguru.com/), if you have a crappy power supply you could potentially short-out almost all of your components

  • Get a modular power supply if you care about cable management and/or looks, it is a real pain in the ass to cable manage with a non-modular power supply as I spent probably about two to three hours last week trying make my system look some-what tidy

  • If you can, follow a guide on LinusTechTips and/or have your experienced friend help and/or oversee the computer being built. LinusTechTips has many build guides for various form factors such as m-itx, matx and atx with different cooling and gpu configurations. Also, having an experienced friend to help you out is never a bad thing especially if it's your first build
