How long until the discontinuation of Haswell?

Go to solution Solved by TheSLSAMG,

Sorry, I was never into PCs until about a year ago and has never had any experiences following processor's releases. So you're saying Haswell processors still might be available in 2015, and like, maybe 2016?

Definitely in 2015, but it's retailer dependent. 2016, it may be more difficult to find the chips though.

Hey everyone, just a quick question.

I am currently using a Core i3 4130 in my first PC and after hearing about Broadwell and Core M, I am a little confused.

I'm using an 8 series motherboard (H81), I won't be able to use the new Broadwell CPUs unless I upgrade (I think).

I was wondering how much time will I have until the core i5 Haswells are discontinued and I will have to get a new motherboard to upgrade my CPU, opposed to just swapping in an i5.

I believe desktop Broadwell will be released Q1 2015...

So will I only be able to get an Haswell i5 during the remainder of 2014 and beginning of 2015, or will there be some overlap in the availability of both?

As is expected with any new CPU launch, there will be a good amount of overlap. Hell, my local Micro Center still sells Sandy Bridge CPUs.

Well you can still buy the 3570K in a few areas (albeit at a higher price than usual). But they're generally discontinued when the new ones are out. But there will be backstock (you could still buy 2009 Phenom X4 965s for £65 (bargain) in the UK until last year :P).
