Audio Technica ATH AG1 Headset weirdness

Transon
Go to solution Solved by ShearMe,

Okay, so it actually makes the sound shit? :/ Anyhow, would you just recommend using the on board then?

Obviously. :)

So, my friend bought this headset, and somehow he's receiving a lot better sound with his on board sound card than his Xonar sound card.

The sound is having this fake quality over it and do sound like stereo, a bad stereo whilst his motherboard sound card delivers excellent sound.

Although, its kind of sad to have a $200 sound card, which delivers worse sound than on board one.

(Works fine with speakers, the corsair ones 2-1 speakers)

Any idea of what could possibly cause this?

Define worse sound quality.

Most motherboards come with great on-board audio, and the audio card could be picking up EMI from other components nearby.

I'm not really sure how to precisely explain, but you just know something is off, and there is like only one tone playing, no warmth in the sound and its very monotone, kind of cheap earplugs quality.

The sound card has a high output impedance, which interferes with how well the amp can drive the low impedance of the AD-G1. This is why we typically don't recommend soundcards around here, especially expensive ones.
