In the European market is a revised version of the Asus PB278Q known as the PB278QR, this version is using a new monitor flickering mode instead of PWM, and an AH-IPS panel instead of Samsung PLS technology.  Don't make the plunge on anything -yet- as this may come to the American / Canadian market soon and seems like a good buy for only $30 or so higher than the European version.  Otherwise.. the AOC Q2770PQU is a very good monitor with amazing reviews as well.  I believe it is super-ips or maybe AH-ips, but not with the immense backlight bleed and some decently small input lag.  Overall that'd be a good bet if you absolutely can't wait, but in a month we may have the  new ASUS PB278QR.  So, I'd say wait.

Would a 1080p output from a Wii U upscale to 1440p or stay native?

Stop recommending this monitor. People have been recommending this monitor on here like it's some sort of holy grail. It's dated and has led pwm dimming.

There's much better options out there for the price.

The benq bl2710pt is one option.

I narrowed down my options to these two:

BenQ BL2710PT: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D7IG5N8

BenQ GW2765HT: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KYCSRSG

I'm thinking of going with the GW2765HT since the other is aimed at professionals whereas I'm looking for a gaming oriented monitor. Plus I like that stand more.

the dell u2713 its a pre calibrated full 8-bit IPS panel it looks really great but its expensive and the lag might be a bit high compared to the TN variety.
