Corsair CX750 or TX750 for gaming?

TrxBoy

Both have at least 80+ certification.Maybe TX750 is 80+ Bronze but pricey.So is this necessary to go with TX750 when your system has FX8320 and R9 280X ?????

That's massive overkill on the wattage if you stick to a single card. If you stick to a single card you can get a 550W PSU just fine without any issues. If you want to go dual card set-up then the EVGA G2 750W/850W would be better choices

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

If you are dead set on a corsair psu, then go for the rm series. RM550 should suffice.

@mansoor_ 80+ Gold is overkill....

It's not really about that. It's about the quality of parts (the RM series is simply a higher spec) and plus if you have a windowed case the sexy cables are nice too...

The RM series is overrated... Grab an EVGA or a XFX XTR ;)

The CX750 is manufactured by CWT based on the PUQ-B platform. It's based on a solid mainstream platform (higher-end than the CX430-600); however, since it is belongs in the budget line of Corsair, there's a few price cut components that had been made to it.

The TX series has a longer 5 year warranty than the 3 year on the CX. There's two versions of the TX750 (not including the TXM). The Seasonic SS-***AT build TXv2 and the Chicony Hipro TXv3. There isn't a review (AFAIK) on the v3; however, it should be just as good as the Seasonic build variant. Nonetheless, they both are better build than the CX750.

I would go with the TX over the CX if given the choice; however, without knowing your budget, the price of the PSUs, and what other PSUs that are available to you, we can't give you a proper recommendation. What I can tell you is that a 750w PSU isn't necessary for your setup.

Why is 750 watt recommended by sapphire???????????

http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?pid=2024#

750w peak vs continuous; 25C vs 50C; 62A vs 50A on the 12v; an i5 Quad core vs  overclocked i7 hexacore; etc.

The 750w is a recommendation that provide leeway for PSUs of various of quality as well as different types of build.

You don't need 750W for one R9-280X. A quality built 550W - 600W will be plenty with room to overclocking your entire system.

The last time I check with a power meter, my system with one HD 7970 (aka R9-280X) was pulling 541W from the wall. Given that I am using a 80 PLUS Bronze power supply, the system is actually using 460W-470W.

*Note: I have a power hungry system, and my CPU and GPUs are overclocked with increased voltage.

And....I am now running two HD 7970's (aka R9-280X) on a Corsair TX850.

It's quite late for where I live, but I'll upload some pictures showing power usage for 1 and 2 graphics cards tomorrow morning.

@Archangel1994 then why R9 280X(SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X) recommends 750Watt PSU?????

http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/product_index.aspx?pid=2024&lid=1#

Im running 2 Sapphire 7970 ( same thing as the 280) on a Corsair TX 750 watt psu ...you dont need 750watt for a single 280x ......550 - 600 watt will be enough. even considering your high watt CPU.

I've heard bad things of RM PSU's. There's the Cooler Master Semi-Modular V series (the new ones). The V550 is not that expensive, is 80+ Gold and i'm pretty sure that it's a good quality unit, there's a lot of positive reviews about them and you get the 5 Years Golden Warranty (CM pays all shipment cost if you need to RMA)

Watch a video of Linus (It's the V650 but the V550 it's pretty much the same)

The CX750 and TX750 aren't the same quality. This can correlated to the fact that the TX is rated for 50C, as opposed to the 30C on the CX, which in order to sustain those temperature, the former will offer higher-quality components (higher temperature rating means higher ambient temp. the PSU can sustain while still capable of outputting what it is rated for). For example, the TX offers full 105 Japanese caps with a 2BB fan, while the CX has a 85C Japanese primary cap and 105C Chinese/Taiwanese Cap and a sleeved bearing fan. Assuming you are getting that version I'm thinking of, I also would say the Chicony OEM generally build better quality PSUs than CWT as well.

Anyways...

http://www.techspot.com/review/586-amd-fx-8350-fx-6300/page7.html

On a full system power consumption with an idled GTX 580 (~35wDC), it shows that the FX8350 can draw up to 254w during Prime95. Taking into account efficiency (around 88% or so) and that idled 580, you are seeing a DC power draw of ~190w.

http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/zardon/sapphire-r9-280x-vapor-x-review/20/

Using a $1000+ Keithley Integra meter, KG was able to isolate the power draw of the Sapphire R9 280x Vapor X from the rest of the system. During Furmark, you see it drawing 251wDC while it is peaking at 227wDC during gaming.

That's up to ~450w during synthetic full load. A load you don't generally see during in real life, as the components of the system rarely run at 100% simultaneously. You would likely see under 350wDC under gaming load. So as stated before, a 750w isn't "necessary", as it can indeed be power on a quality 550w unit such as the Seasonic G.

As Oshino Shinobu said, it's to cover Sapphire's butt.  you buy a 500watt no name brand that isn't certified and the thing MAY deliver the needed wattage.

The builder series CX models are reliable and cheap.  Not nearly as quiet as the gold rated PSu's, but still very efficient.  My CX500 has proven to be an outstanding value running for the last 4 years in my sons machine (PHENOM II X6 1090T @1.45volts, Radeon 5870 to start, now using a GTX 670)

Use an online PSU calculator to give you a rough guide.  a 80+certified PSU at 600watts will probably have you sitting in the 60% usage sweet spot for your rig.

Gold and Platinum certified PSU's are two to four times the money, half as loud (or silent) and have slightly longer warranties.  Not worth it for 99% of PC gamers
