not sure where to put this so mods could you put this in the right sub forums so my question is is it better to record videos to a different hard drive or the same hard drive that is the used as the primary/download drive

Whatever you want man. Doesn't really matter. If you were editing high bitrate then you would want a scratch drive, storage drive, and render drive, but for lower bitrate (less than 100Mb/s) usually you will be fine.

You should record to another drive, Easier to manage that way and it is annoying to fill up the main drive all the time.

It depends. Are both of your drives HDDs? Is your main drive an SSD?

Always record videos to the SSD. Then move them to an HDD for long-term storage.

why wouldn't it be just fine to record to another drive

Because HDDs are MUCH slower than an SSD and that can lead to lower fps in game, lower quality recording, or even stuttering as frames are skipped because the drive is too slow.

At 1080p 30fps a regular HDD is fine.

A ssd is only really needed at 4k 30fps and higher.

No, it does not only depend on resolution and framerate. It also depends on the colour, encoded format, bitrate, etc...

Linus did a NCIX tech tip a few years ago by recording 1080p to an SSD vs a HDD, and he got higher fps in game while recording to an SSD AT 1080P

It is fine, I dont think the difference was huge.

It also depends on how high the load on the CPU are while gaming, If it already is pretty high it matter less.
