I chose and will still choose the Portable because it's different, and because as a specific-use device, it's far superior to the Tablet.

For mobile gaming then get the Shield Portable

for everything else (web browsing, email and media playback) get the Sheld Tablet

It depends, they are two different form factors... it's what suits you.

 

It terms of performance, the nvidia shield tablet has newer more powerful hardware.

If you want tablet get the shield tablet. If you want shield portable then get nintendo 3ds.

the tablet because i dont game much

tablet because i would mainly use it as a tablet since i have amd card but i think that it would be best for me, i could always 3d print a mold to have teh tablet and controller together

I like to use it for flying the AR Drone.  It makes for an amazing controller.

I already have a Nexus 7, so I'd rather choose the Shield Portable for gaming. I actually plan on getting it next month!

for me, the most obviously places you would use this is in bed or on the couch, with the shield tablet you need to prop the tablet up so you can see it and then hold a controller which will most likely block part of your view if you are trying to use this while laying down

Tablet, it's more versatile imo. And the controller feels nice in the hand. Really like the buttons.
