Everyone's either buying a 9** card or SLIing a 7** card. I'm just sitting here with my 780 wondering why people want this so bad. MAYBE I'll buy one. MAYBE, but my current plan is to wait for Volta/Pascal. I probably won't buy a 9** series unless the produce MUCH better performance then my current card. I know they already are better, but I'm gunna wait to decide until the bugs and such of new products are ironed out.

I think just the 770/780/780ti

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Only way you are going to find one is if you buy one immediately because whatever stock is left is all that there will be or buy a used one.

Yeah, I think the 980 seems pretty lovely. However I am waiting for the next card that is 16nm gpu's.

I wanted to sli my 780 but that's not gonna happen now, I'm not buying a second hand card.

It's still a bit jerky to discontinuedthe 780s and all, just cause they can.

I agree, it is complete bs and a slap in the face to their customers. the 780, 780ti and 770 was the top tier cards they had. To discontinue them on day one is a slap in the face to us who purchased these cards and had plans to purchase another. I presume it is because the performance difference isn't huge between the 7xx series and the 9xx series. But still, it lowers consumers morale and feels we are just getting jerked around. The 7xx series cards are nowhere near their death but to nvidia that doesn't matter.

It has. If you see someone like amazon or newegg selling new ones it's because they are getting rid of the last of stock. This is why 780ti price dropped to 600 a month ago.

I definitely wouldn't say noticeably faster than a 780ti. It's about 5% and you won't see that in games.

Smart card manufacturers (as in NVidia/AMD) will hold off on price reductions until roughly 4 of the 5 top-end cards are released for the next generation. You didn't notice it so much with the last gen because of mining. That caused inflated AMD cards across the board, for the most part anyway, as well as very short nonexistant NVidia stock for 600-series GPUs. This time around, it'll be more obvious. NVidia did reduce 600-series GPU prices but it was overshadowed heavily due to how close 600 and 700 were in performance (there really wasn't a significant boost between the two, unlike Maxwell vs GK110).

AMD is really keeping things in the dark for the next generation but we can assume that with the competition of NVidia's Maxwell, they may keep prices very similar to current GPUs. It may take months but it'll likely happen. I'm not quite convinced of that seeing as Tonga, the GCN version of the 7950, is quite expensive for what you get compared to a 280 or 270/X. You do get a decent performance boost and feature set comparing the 285 to the 280 but that does not justify a ~25% increase in cost, even on sale, when there's 1GB less of GDDR5. While the 3GB is pretty unnecessary, that 1GB adds a good $10-$15 to the retail.

GK110 vs Maxwell, however.. That's a different story. I think that before they reduce prices, the 700-series stock will have to be drained. Due to the heavily AMD-favored mining craze yet again, I'm not sure how long that'd take.

My opinion/the tl;dr is that it'll take a good 3-5 months before you notice a significant enough price drop on the GTX 700s/800s. I'd wait 6 weeks or so after the 760 is released to buy the 780 in particular.

I'd also keep tabs on the 870 benchmarks; it may prove to be a much better buy than the 780 for systems both below and above triple 1080p, meaning multimonitor 1440p or even 4k+. It could very well have a full 512bit memory BUS for the 4GB of VRAM like that of the R9 290/X. I have a sneaking suspicion that it's the anticipated/rumored stacked VRAM (which I believe wouldn't affect high resolution setups nearly as much as it would increase performance on some games, specifically heavy resource textures from mods and the likes (Witcher 3 PC/etc..?)).

Final note: I'm probably mis/uninformed to an extreme level on some parts. The economics/pricing stuff is beyond 95% accurate however. I've been following prices across various hardware, mainly GPUs, for the last year and a half. There's no way I'm going to take any criticism regarding that topic seriously.

Keep in mind my post was based on the fact that videocardz and WFFCTech are full of shit 90% of the time (all of the time) and shouldn't be trusted. I'm not sure if they have already released full specs but until the card(s) are released officially, and reviews are out, ignore them.

You lost me there...the fully enabled GK104 from the 600 series (and GTX 770) is a good 40% slower than a fully enabled GK110 from the 780ti or Titan black...if that's close in performance to you it's certainly not to me...a GTX 780 is 30% faster in games than a 680, that's a huge jump...it's also 50% more cuda cores and 50% more VRAM on a 50% wider memory bus...50% more texture unit as well...50% more of everything. we'll see later on how a fully enabled GK204 does.

for 1080p 60FPS you don't need this right now a single 780 still max out most games at that resolution and offers very good and enjoyable gaming experience.

I understand that....and thats the only reason why I'm more than likely not going to upgrade my 780s simply because I'd have to sell one of them at a pretty big loss even though I could just step up the other one :/
