After five years, the new 7D is out - the Canon 7D Mark II.

Key specs:

 - 20MP Dual-Pixel AF CMOS Sensor
 - 10 fps continuous shooting with autofocus
 - 65 all cross-type autofocus sensor
 - 150,000 RGB pixel metering sensor
 - Dual Digic 6 processors
 - Enhanced water and dust sealing
 - Compact Flash (UDMA) and SD (UHS-I) slots
 - USB 3.0 connector
 - Built-in GPS
 - Larger-capacity LP-E6N battery
 - Shutter speeds up to 1/8000th seconds
 - Shutter rated to 200,000 cycles (vs 150,000 on 7D)
 - And now... BUILT-IN INTERVALOMETER!

The main image sensor is a variant of the 70D's Dual Pixel AF design with 20.2 megapixels. Dual Pixel AF allows for good autofocus when capturing video because it can assess the position and distance of the subject from every captured frame. A monster 10FPS is the highest speed the camera can take pictures, even with autofocus!

Speaking of video, the 7D MkII can shoot 1080P at 60FPS now, which may be a selling point for videographers. Now included is a headphone port for listening to what the camera is focusing.

Have they managed to catch up on sensors, or are they still far behind Sony/ NIkon?

Also that body looks surprisingly rigid for Canon.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Very interesting camera, but I'd rather switch over to Panasonic because of the video features. If I wanted photo features I may consider it.

Garrus - HP Stream 11

the 7d looks decent for video actually with dual pixel AF and new video modes!

But now I have my Sony A7, I think I am sticking with it!

the 7d has a magnesium body just like the 5d just FYI

that said never had an issue with polycarbonate canon systems

You wanted a Canon 1D... Why again? This is probably the camera to get for sport, wildlife, and alike.

I can only see the 1D being useful for its full-frame.

I'd go for the 5D MkIII.

I'd go for the 5D MkIII.

I still see the 7D Mkii being preferred due to 1.6x crop and the 10 FPS bursts that it can do. At least for sport/wildlife.

Don't get me wrong, the 5D MkIII is still a great body. I would say a better choice when you control the subject to some degree.

To Canon, can you see the winds of change blowing?

Where is the 4k video, I would even settle for 4k output over HDMI

and focus peaking... APS-C isn't FF but it's still a bitch to keep in focus

Canon started the whole DSLR video scene, and is now getting shut out by its own doing.

Panasonic, Sony, hell even freaking Samsung seems to be circling ready to take a bite.

That being said, looks like a killer of a stills camera.

How does this compare to the New Samsung NX1 that was just announced?

From reading around the web in terms of video the Samsung is poised to completely destroy this camera. As a stills camera this thing is going to beat it.

Advantages for NX1 Video:

-H.265 codec! From what i've read their getting about a 26x times compression compared to ProRes 422 HQ and apparently IQ isn't effected.

-Samsung are claiming a 5ms latency EVF to make shooting almost lagless

-4K internal.

-Moire and Alising probably aren't going to be a problem since Samsung claim the sensor can do full pixel readouts at 30fps .

-Zebras!!! Peaking!!!

Advantages for Canon 7D Stills:

-10fps burst with 31raw buffer!

-Canon Eco-system of lenses / flashes

-Bigger Battery

-1D focusing system

At this point it doesn't seem like Canon is even trying to compete in DSLR video.
