once again evga for warranty and asus for better cooling it's really up to you

I5-4440 12gb ram MSI gtx 1070 gaming x evga 600b power supply

i looked on newegg, i can get 2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130932&ignorebbr=1&cm_re=gtx_760-_-14-130-932-_-Product

for around 460$, which is way cheaper than the gtx 780, but the 780 has more CUDA Cores, which is good for rendering/encoding

rendering videos/encoding is mostly on the cpu then it is on the gpu. gpus shine in games

It's always better to get the highest tier single card you can afford over SLI or Crossfire.

if you still have the budget of $300 for one card:

I have considered the gigabyte card, but it is a long card, and i might have to get a new case,

 

i do like the MSI,for it's cooling,

 

what would be the pro's of going with a r9 290 instead of a 770?

 

i know there are more processing cores on the 290, and it isn't that expensive compared to a 780, right?

amds cores are completely different from nvidias cores never go off of the core count comparing the 2

If you want NVidia, you can probably get a 750TI/760, If you want Radeon, then probably a 270x or 280

I would say the GTX 770 or AMD R9 280, 285 and 280x are out of the question for me because of their stability and poor reliability. 

just because you received a bad card that doesn't mean every card is the same. the 280x is fine, trust me (unless you buy ASUS')

I heard the 280x can play games just fine, and i like their looks :D

I am going to have to think about either a 280x or a 290.

R9 285. But if you like nvidia, get a 770. :P

 

285 is moreso meant to compete with 760. 280x performs pretty much the exact same as 770 though (horrible naming scheme though)

The 285 is better than the 280x. So wouldnt the 285 compete with the 770 and the 280x compete with the 760? (Even though the 280x kills the 760)

Nope. 285 performs similar-better than 760 while 280x performs literally the same as 770.

7970Ghz performed better than GTX 680 and the 280x performs better than 770 nothing has changed but the naming. Many people seem to give nvidia leniency even when it often is the lesser performing tech and amazing still costs more.
