4770k OC Issue

Go to solution Solved by winningsince1337,

Even if it's a touchy beast, if it makes the PC crash... then the oc is unstable in my eyes.

I'd up the voltage a tad more as long as your temps are fine, or you could try to lower the clockspeed and see what that gives if you're not comfortable with higher temps.

Got it sorted out this morning. Regardless of voltage, BF4 crashes @ 4.6 Ghz, which being that it was the only thing to crash made me think there's something about BF4 that won't run properly at those speeds (at least in my machine). So, I backed it down to 4.5 Ghz @ 1.22v, which I had previously determined was stable with AIDA64, and BF4 ran fine. So, I'll be leaving it there. Temps topped out at 55 C :D Gotta love 240mm AIO's :P

Thanks for all your help guys! The LTT Community has been a huge factor that has made my current Gaming/Future Productivity Machine possible. Linus really has created a great thing here without a doubt.

So yesterday, I OC'ed my 4770k to 4.6 GHz at 1.25v. It survived 3 hours of AIDA64 with temps topping out at 66 C. However, after about 15 min of BF4, it crashed. So, I upped the voltage to 1.255v and it survived bf4 for a bit before crashing. What should I do? Should I just drop it down to 4.5 and lower the voltage a bit?

Thats just battlefield. its a really touchy beast that one. maybe try crysis 2/3 if theres something wrong with the oc that game will crash it. With battlefield crashing at stock half the time its not a fair tell

In game temps were 62 with 1.25 and my cpu fans at as low as they would go. I'll try 1.26 and see if that fixes it.

Do let me know when you find a stable voltage for that oc, I'm rather curious and the best of luck. Hope you manage to find that sweet spot soon.

Not really. BF4 has had odd issues since Dragon's teeth DLC. Try a few different games as it could just be BF4.

Will do, once I have some free time tonight I'll hammer this out and report back in.

I'm surprised bf4 could crash it considering I ran 3 hrs of AIDA with 0 problems. If I had to guess, it's probably because bf4 is such a variable load and AIDA is pretty constant.

Also, in my bios, I can adjust the TDP for the processor. Stock is 84 watts should I bump it up? would it make it more stable?

I've had random problems with BF4 lately that I never had issues with before. But yet my stuff run flawlessly with every other game and stress test.

Maybe check if BF4 runs fine at stock clocks. If it doesn't there may not be anything wrong with your machine.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

Indeed. So you could increase the voltage, or lower the temperature or the frequency.
