If it´s not a problem for you a R9 295x2 could be a nice solution. Just make sure your PSU has enough power to provide. But the R9 295x2 is at the same price point pretty much than the Titan Black.

This is my current setup.

My second PCI slot has shit it self so i thought instead of upgrading the motherboard i would sell the two gpu's and buy a single which can do a similar job. So dual cards is out of the option currently have enough power also.

What would be a good single card replacement for a dual 7970 setup.

Need it to run tripple screen for racing titles

Nothing. Dual 7970 = Dual 280X which is better then any single GPU right now. 295X2 or Titan Z would be the only single card upgrade

Your system is really okay and a single card to replace a 7970 CF is not available at the moment :). But you could also look into a R9 290 CF. You would get almost the R9 295x2 performance and would be even cheaper :).

Why dont you try to get a MOBO for the cheap?

2x 7970 is still enough IMO

Problem is I cant run 2 cards anymore second PCIE slot is malfunctioning. So which single card can run three screens and would be good for a future sli or crossfire setup.

The 295x2 is a single card, dual GPU.

Yeah then the R9 295x2 seems to be the best case scenario. And you should be able to sell that 7970 CF for a fair price and then the R9 becomes even more attractive :) .

WOW that card is $2000 in aussies might need a more budget solution

Then a 290x is the next best thing...

I highly doubt the titan z will be less than that xD

can that handle three screens on the one card

it can, but depending on the games it may not be the most optimal solution. how about getting a different mobo?

might have to be a mobo upgrade but the sucky part is i will have to learn how to.

Do you know if on the maximus board can you run a single GPU on the second PCIE only or do you have to start from the first slot.

its not hard. take off the ram/gpu/cpu/cables

get a new mobo, install them, clean the old thermal compound, install new, plug it all in again

voila

and it works, but in an x8 mode

290X or 780ti <  doesnt even come close to 7970 x2.   would be a for sure downgrade. Get a new Mobo and learn how to build.

my system

Intel I5 3450

Sapphire 7970 X2 crossfire

16 GB RAM

Wouldnt trade my 7970's for ANY single card out there.

If you really want to change your motherboard, which is by the way a good plan, because having a board that is already damaged, wouldn't make me sleep very well hehe, I would buy the board and prepare myself.

If it is the first time you want to do this. Get the motherboard and some thermal compound. Besides that get a laptop, tablet or another PC or your cell phone ready and watch PC building guides. Stop the guide always at the step you are at this point. That will help you a lot.

Linus has some awesome PC build guides on Youtube, or JayZ 2 Cents or Paul's Hardware from NewEgg.

If you change the motherboard (and maybe a new CPU cooler, IDK what you've got right now) you can keep on using that 7970CF and end up way cheaper than buying a new GPU.

I would not change a 7970CF for a single R9 290X or 780Ti. CF/SLI systems are running butter smooth nowadays. AMD and nVidia did good on that side.

As long it has Crossfire support then its going to bo more of what you prefer or want in other features......I have an ASUS P8Z77-V LK works great for what i need it to do has enough features to be a good contender at a decent price point.   And im running Dual 7970's with it ...its ben a great board.   Had GTX 470 SLI in it before i upgraded to the 7970's
