WD Black for gaming, really worth it?

Sentien
Go to solution Solved by loccilucas,

Looking at buying a few WD Black 2TB, running OS etc... from main SSD but am wondering if the Black version are actually worth buying as the specs do seem alot similar compared to the Green and Red versions... or am i missing something here?

Its not really worth it, all it will do is create shorter loading screens in games, just get the WD blues as the blacks are loud anyway.

The greens are pretty poo and the reds are designed for nas storage really.

Looking at buying a few WD Black 2TB as I'm running OS from main SSD and want a larger capacity sotrage, but am wondering if the Black version are actually worth buying as the specs do seem alot similar compared to the Green and Red versions... or am i missing something here?

honestly the only benefit you might notice is the extended warranty on blacks  (if they still do that)

Edit:

Reds are for 24/7 NAS or small server Ops

Greens are for long term storage since they are oriented towards power saving

blues are for your everyday use

blacks are like blues but slightly faster

purples are for 24/7 Surveillance systems

You should be running all your games and programs from your SSD, not just the OS. If you bought an SSD just for a couple seconds faster boot that is a waste of money.

Best option is to get a larger capacity 240 or 480GB SSD for all the games and programs. Use a hard drive for mass storage, and SSD for everything else. Then that is when SSDs become worth the money.

It's on my SSD now. The difference is actually less than expected.
