Replacing Thermal Paste?

Hi, so how easy is it to replace thermal paste and should i do it?

 

I have a 2500k, i'm using the stock cooler and thermal paste from when the 2500k was released.

 

I have a feeling, after many years of use and abuse it now needs new thermal paste.

It's easy. Take off the cooler. Get so isopropyl alcohol and coffee filters, wipe down the cpu and heatsink. Apply a small blob of thermal paste and reseat the cooler.

To remove it use minimum 70% and preferably 99% aesepropyl alcohol on a standard paper towel.

Since release :mellow:  it's almost definitely dried up by now. If it is dry you can just use tissue paper to wipe it off or micro fiber cloth if you have.

I'm old school and still use Arctic Silver 5.  There's probably better ones on the market now, but that's about all I've ever used on my builds for years.

I don't know too well about that stuff, but I regularly read that the MX-4 is supposed to one of the best.

It's easy to appy but I could understand your concern, I use 90% Isopropyl alcohol with q-tips until it's clean then use a micro fiber cloth to make sure nothing is left same with the cooler.

As for the thermal paste I use MX-4 but the choice is yours and the method I use is the "grain of rice" method.

On top of all that was already mentioned, you should consider getting non-conductive thermal pastes as they are generally safer to use.  I recommend getting Gelid's GC Extreme - It's been out for a while now but it's still a top contender in most regards.
