How can Chrome be such a power hungry pile of unoptimized crap. Ugh. The way it just murders battery is really grinding my gears and it seems like Google just doesn't give a shit at all about cleaning it up.

Can't believe I'm using IE more than I am Chrome.

It's for this very reason I started using Safari. Battery life with Chrome: ~4-5ish hours average. Battery life with Safari, with the same background processes, and (close to) same display brightness, around 7-8 hours.

I switched to Opera because of the issues chrome caused me. Never looked back after that choice.

Chrome isn't unoptimized, its was found to have been made to make your computer work faster to make things faster, but i guess that can be seen as being unoptimized, and also draining on batteries

I guess they kinda forgot that they need to have optimisation for battery life as well as performance (ie as a toggle in the settings page or something)

Also, OP, what's the power settings for your laptop (performance, normal, battery-saving)? It could be (I don't know as I don't own a laptop) that Chrome would calm down if the laptop was in a powersave mode.

Same could be said about Firefox. At least Chrome doesn't crash everytime you enter a site with flash.

Good move, opera is boss.

Yeah, I've been using it for about 3 or 4 months now. Not really played around with it, as I've been too busy to fiddle around with add ons etc but it's so much faster for my laptop to use, and it looks nicer IMHO.

Chrome is incredibly well optimized—For giving the user the best browsing experience; sure it might drain your battery, but when used on a normal PC it doesn't really matter. It's designed to hog as much resources as it can without throttling other programs. If it notices it's ruining your experience elsewhere it'll try to scale down on its own.

I'm really liking Opera Next (the beta stream version) at the moment. You get updates way quicker, and it's been rock solid for me all through.

"Unused RAM is wasted RAM".

And so said the GabeN we mustn't waste RAM for with out it we are nothing. And to do so we must reform to a new empire. -EA Revelations book 666, section 13

Ask not what your RAM can do for you but rather what you can do for your RAM. -Sebastian book 12, section 9

And so GabeN has told us to march forthith unto the Land of Holy welding our swords of mice, shields of keyboards, and helmets of Oculus Rifts where we shall reclaim it-which is rightfully ours-from the PUNY Console Peasants from whom armed only with mere controllers we shall decimate in all forms of battle and we shall dominate even in their most ridiculous tradition and infatuation of CoD. Yes, my brothers- sisters and trans sexuals too- we shall destroy the inferior of races with our might and majesty. And if any Peasants wish to join us they must speak now or forever perish. -Ancient Speech from a Leader of Old, Book of Murratri section 2
