Hi!

As always, I apologise for my english.

Now I have an i7 930 based system.

I like to use Blender 3D a lot. (If, in a day, i didn't learn something new, i feel like a wasted that day) but, im not earning money with it. And also i like to use after effects with the videos that i make with it.

I'd like to upgrade my system this year but im not sure that i need a 5820k or not.

i have the money to afford it, and i don't upgrade my system every 2 years but a lot of people tell me that i don't really need it. Im afraid of not using it at 100% or, in case i'll buy an 4790, to don't have enough power.

I also play games but, yeah i know that my current system is enough for it.

What would you guys do? Would you buy an 4790 saving some money for a better monitor or a graphic tab or would you go for a 5820k with ddr4 memory for having a more powerful system for the next 4-5 years?

Thank you for reading my post and for all the answers. You're a nice community. Sorry if i don't write so much but I read a lot.

As always i apologise for my bad english, I no speak americano.

No point in making such upgrades if you don't need the power.

Depends on what type of builder you are and what your future plans are. As of 2 weeks ago I ordered all of my previously planned i7-4790k build and had it half assembled. Then the X99's dropped and the DDR4 prices really weren't that bad unless you were going for dominator platinums. The early benchmarks (Tek Syndicate has multiple X99 platform reviews up) were promising even on engineering samples and the x264 benches blew the i7-4790's out of the water http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cpu_mainboard/intel_i7_5960x_review_with_asus_x99_deluxe/10 which is primarily what I will be using this platform for....so I just sold the 4790k along with most of the components and dropped the hammer on the 5960X.

Apparently I'm a one build every 5 years kind of guy. If I was more reasonable I would have waited another 6 months for the competition between manufacturers to heat up and DDR4 prices to drop, but I'm also impatient.
