50% CPU usage gaming

I have been playing dayz for a while now and I know it's a CPU intensive game but whenever i play it I get about 58 fps and sometimes 40 when around houses.. I watch my CPU usage as it maxes at 40-50% usage, which I don't understand why am I getting lower fps when my CPU can still double it's power and make a solid 60fps so I was wondering how can I get 100%(or close to it) when gaming so I can get a better frame rate

Your CPU running at 100% wouldn't increase your frame rate by much. There's a certain threshold you hit where the CPU is no longer holding the GPU back and than there's no longer an improvement.

What is your GPU load at while playing?  There should be significant performance improvements when the game is further through its development.  Wait until its new rendering engine is released and the game moves to DX11.

OP, could you try out another few games and tell us what your CPU usage is like on them? I feel like this is probably going to be caused by poor coding on DayZ's behalf, but it won't hurt to get some benchmarks from other games.

My gpu(R9 290x) is also around only 30% usage

That's odd, mine is usually at 100% but dips between that and 40% often, here's a screenshot:

Dayz is VERY single-threaded. Take a look at your core loads. I bet you'll see one or two cores loaded heavily while the others are doing very little. The combined total CPU usage may only be 50%, but the game can only use 1 or 2 cores. It's also notoriously unoptimized, so don't expect crazy frame rates. I don't get much more than 50fps in this game either.

DayZ is about as optimised as touchwizz.  Even the latest and greatest hardware has trouble running DayZ (same can be said about touchwizz funny enough).

 

You wont get a better frame rate unless you turn the graphics on to the lowest settings (which thankfully provides an advantage over those using higher quality settings) or until the game is optimised.

Since nobody gave you a direct answer; Dayz is a CPU bound game. All you can do to it is having more single threaded performance; by either upgrading the CPU or overclocking it.

i think everybody forgot to mention one simple fact...

 

If DayZ's server cannot get above x framerate in the location you're in, you don't get above that FPS either. It's the way the Arma engine is built, and the way a lot of other games are built. Just that Arma 2/3's engine is unoptimized as hell for the visuals it presents so most servers can't run it as well, whereas games like Black Ops 2 have their upper limit somewhere around 180fps (give or take 5 fps or so). If you go in single player for these games you may notice your FPS much higher than you get online.
