ALERT! nVidia 320.18 driver

GamerDude

Hey guys, thought I'd give you guys a heads up, there is an issue with the 320.18.....especially for Fermi based cards. Do not install this driver, it's been know to up voltages on Fermi cards, this can cause physical damage to the cards, so avoid at all cost! There may not be an issue for Kepler based cards, other than glitches.....I have a pair of GTX670's and I'm not going to try this....still on 320.00.

Do you have any source for this? I haven't hear any talk about this on other forums.

Edit: I'm on 320.18 and haven't encountered anything out of the ordinary.

Have there been any known reports of fried cards because of this?

I have not had any problem with the 320.18 driver. My temps hasn't been going crazy, so atleast it is not overvolting my 680. And what are your sources?

You can look thru some of the posts here, and go back thru the pages if you want to:

It seems to affect certain models of Fermi more than others, and Keplers (GTX6xx/GTX7xx) do not seem to be affected. You guys can also check out the nVidia forums where there is some complaints/feedback on this as well....here's the link:

I'm surprised NVIDIA released a driver that caused such a problem. I know the fermi cards are getting old already but there are still people out there that use them le sigh. Even their 320 beta drivers were bad, I kept having like artifacts in games.

Weird how something this big has not been reported by hardware sites yet. How long has this issue been discovered?

they probably want to kill out the older cards so that people would upgrade and give them more profit (lol conspiracy theory :D  )

I've been running the 320.18 driver for a while now. Temps and voltages are WELL within range. Maximum temp my 660 Ti hit is 56 degrees C @ 1.21GHz.

Again, you guys are not noting that I'd mentioned that it seemed to affect Fermi, and certain models of Fermi since it has this Boost function, it up volts some Fermi card and that's not good. If you go to page 23 of the GeForce forums, there are a couple of guys whose cards have fried I believe. More are expected to report back on this as the driver makes its way into more rigs. I don't believe Keplers (GTX6xx and GTX7xx) series are affected by this, though some are reporting worse performance, BSOD's and artifacts. This is not acceptable for a supposedly WHQL driver.....this is the second time nVidia has released a driver that actually cause physical damage to their cards.

Not really worried abou frying any of my cards since they are water cooled. Even if the drivers shoot the volts upwards like crazy, the low temps water cooling gives will offset a large amount of the potential damage it may inflict.

Going to test it on my reference GTX 470, if it melts we will have the answer.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Might explain the glitches im getting in bf3 check out this screenshot!

http://prntscr.com/17r4v6

Also it could be something to do with this GPU boost 2.0 thing for the 780 and stuff that auto overclocks it or something but I dunno.

those glitches has been happening ever since 314.22 and every driver after it (Knifing someone when you get this glitch is hilarious xD) , best driver for bf3 ended up beeing 306.97 for me (310.xx stutter, 313.xx are fine with minor stuttering,314.xx artifacting,320.xx artifacting (on a gtx 470))

Also happens in AC III in the 320.xx series of drivers

but yer in general there seems to be alot wrong with the 320.18 drivers if your not running 600 - 700 series, and quite a few 560ti users reporting broken graphic cards .
