I'm wanting to build up a Server/guest PC for some gaming and content storage and backup, I have the GPU, RAM and basically everything else, I need a CPU and motherboard.

What I'm trying to find is either Intel quad core or Hex core and a suitable mATX motherboard that supports DDR3.

I'm looking in the price range of £100 to £150 for both.

What is the CPU like? Kinda also looking for something with low TDP and can be run if needed 24/7 was also looking into ECC memory....

oh Xeon will be great but not sure which board support ECC RAMs...

this is a locked CPU so TDP is not any problem

I think you'd need a C224 chipset for ECC on the Xeon.

Xeons are also binned for 24/7 use and lower tdp :)

I don't think that's gonna be a £150 job. I'd try pick up something like a used z77 board and a used i5 3330s.

you are correct, a xeon e3-1231V3 for example does support ECC ram.

however, you indeed gonne need a C-series chipset board aswell for ECC support.

and those boards, are kinda expensive.

@Lazmarr

Board and CPU are available on Amazon.

Needless to say it aint cheap. But there is an alternative.

You can get dual socket LGA771 board for like £35. Quad core Xeons on that socket for ~£30 and 16Gb of ECC DDR2 for £70.

You still got to power the thing though :P
