What's good free start menu soft for windows 8.1?

Why do you want the old start menu?

I like it. I don't feel comfortable with metro start & can't find things I want.

For a paid service (like $3) Start8 is probably the best or startisback

 

classic shell is a good free one

 

I use start 8, Its really good and lets you choose which aspects of windows 8 you want to keep and which to hide, it also  has a hybrid start menu too

The metro ui is quite weird at first but it kinda makes sense over the previous smart menu button/pop-up in win7. For one thing you can layout your programmes wherever & whenever you choose to do so. What kind of things are you looking for normally?

For me it's usually faster to hit the Windows key, then quickly type the name of a program and select it.

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.
