I have a laptop that's 7 years old. It's been overheated, dropped, and the only things wrong with it are the period and comma keycaps missing.

Why does any part of it still function?

It's been used for gaming for ~5 years and HTPC/Steam IHS use for the past two years

my no brand PSU on my P4 machine was running fine for like 10 years before it finally kick the bucket last year

so yea

it may be the load on the PSU was just enough for it to run

lol because it's been physically abused. I'm wondering on how this PC still functions running a GTX 285 off a 520W Best buy in-house brand PSU (which I read delivers a max of 400W) for 8 years and still going strong

Well that's a P4. This is a GTX 285 running off molex adapters on a PSU that delivers at most 400W max (of 12V power, read off the sticker, in reality wouldn't be surprised if it delivered less then this)

Today that's like running a 780 rig off a 500W Diablotek

The thing is some guy probably has a 780 on a diablotek 500W and will run for another 5 years with no issues where as another guy could have tried the same thing and had it explode in his face and burn his house down. It's hit or miss really...

I had a "Solarbeam" (that's the actual brand) PSU running on a PC with a Pentium for 10 years. I once opened it up to clean it, the internals on that PSU..., they were awful O.o they would have made Johnnyguru cry.

i got a PSU which say Pentium ready for the Pentium 166MHz system

that PC was working when I changed to a Pentium 3 so my dad gave it away to charity

couldn't bear to throw it away coz it cost like 3 grand when new

dont know where it went already

Dynex is used in OEM PC's, they might not be 80+ rated but they won't explode.

My 550W Antec NeoPower HE isn't 80+ rated but it can deliver 100W more then the sticker, and when you aren't pulling that much from it, it can get 80+ Silver levels of efficiency :P
