I have a new router that i was going to use to bridge, however i can't seem to get it working (You can try to help me bridge if you want)

So i am currently trying to connect it to my internet to replace my current router (Provided by ISP)

However i noticed my current router uses a TV cable to connect to the internet, my new router doesn't have a port for this cable

How can i connect it ?

Thanks

Your ISP 'router' is actually a modem. You cannot replace a modem with a router. If you want to use your new router, it needs to be plugged in by ethernet cable to the modem. The modem is what converts the coaxial signal to internet. This is why the ISP always gives you their modem, because you cannot use any other.

Your current router is probably a router/modem combo. Modems are what connect via tv cable aka coax cable. Then there is an ethernet cable from the modem to the router. But some companies give you a combo unit, which it sounds like you have. The only solution you have is to buy a modem to replace your combo unit, then connect it to the coax cable, an ethernet from the modem to the router. Then you should be all set. There is no way to connect a standalone router to the internet without a modem before it somewhere.

Unless you're just mistaken and are talking about the modem itself, in which case just connect the router to the modem via an ethernet cable.

Yes.

Plug in the cable to the modem's 1 2 3 or 4 ethernet port, then plug that in to your new router's LAN port.

If there is an ethernet out on the modem then yes you can. I'm not too familiar with what ports they usually have, but if it does, then it should work. The problem though is you'll be running two routers in a row, which can cause issues with DHCP and assigning ip's, as well as having to go through two firewalls, which could slow your connection a bit. I ran two routers before and took me a week to figure out how to get them both working with each other, was a pain. But you can try and see what happens, wont hurt anything.

It did work but my powerline adapters didn't work, i don't know if i would have to reset them so they would work with the new router

IF you can reset them you can try that, however I have a feeling it has to do with dhcp. It's what assigns ip addresses to things that need them. When you run two routers in a row like that you need to disable dhcp on one of them. It's honestly a lot of trouble to troubleshoot, especially if you don't know a lot about networking. It sounds easy, but when I ran two routers even after disabling dhcp on one it still didn't work, was just a nightmare to deal with.

I am going to try again later when i find out how to reset the powerline adapters

I know how to disable DHCP and if that doesn't work i might just leave it

Bridging is difficult too

I had the problem of something in one of the routers blocking connections from the first router. After disabling dhcp, assigning a static ip, turning BOTH firewalls off. It still wouldn't work. I literally messed with it for a week before I finally got it working, I don't remember what I did but I know it was ridiculous and frustrating. DHCP needs to be disabled on the router modem combo, which hopefully you can do and it will work smoothly. If not then the easiest thing is find a router your isp will support and let you use, buy it, register it with them and use that instead. Not free, but it is less of a headache.
