My friend wants me to build a PC for him and he has ~900$. 950$ is probably as high as he can go. So what do you guys think of this?

Corsair 230T Black

EVGA 500B Power Supply

Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P

AMD FX-6300

Msi R9 270

WD Black 1 TB

Windows 7 Home Premium

HyperX Fury Black 8GB

BenQ RL2455HM

Don't ask for PC part picker link because I did it in an excel spreadsheet.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

I just hope that you dont make any mistakes and your friend hates you for them ... I did that once but it was a manufactures fault and it was replaced

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

270X if you can, but it's good enough, at least for $900.

He can just overclock the 270 but seriously see if NCIX has that deal still for the R9 280 that was $199.99 or wait on that deal.  Still though if he wants to play games the way they were meant to be played he should go Green Team.

If I am building for someone else I would go with an Antec psu as you should be able to find something affordable and of quality.  SeaSonic would be nice but hard to find those psus cheap.

You can disagree all you like Davsmith4 about someone saying to get Western Digital Blue drives or Seagate drives but I haven't heard complaints from people here or elsewhere about the drives that would keep me away from them.  In fact I have two Seagate 3 TB hard drives bought for much less than Western Digital Caviar Black drives and they are working just fine.  Seagates problem drives are not with it's current products.

(Btw tried to quote someone and it is not always working.  What is up with this site tonight?)

If this guy is not overclocking anything which should be done with the hardware the OP is mentioning then I say continue to look around for prices on better hardware and if need be pay a little more.  This system screams to be overclocked.  Seriously an AMD FX 6300 and no OC?  WTH?  You can overclock it over 4 GHz with an aftermarket cooler no problem without messing with voltages.  Why wouldn't you do this?

Then get him an i3 on H97 motherboard. Use stock cooler.

I figured having more cores would be better for him. He likes to multitask.

A false equivalence. The number of concurrently executing threads supported is only part of the equation that determines performance. But even that has next to nothing to do with how many tasks a user can have open at any one time. Having 16 executing threads available is the same as having 2 if there are only two tasks that require cpu time at any given moment, regardless of how many open tasks there are.

I actually suggested i3 because there are many more motherboard options in three form factors. Unfortunately AM3/AM3+ is pretty much restricted to ATX. Performance between the i3 and a non-overclocked FX-6300 is pretty much even.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

He has an ATX case....
