Sennheiser Game One/Zero VS. Audiophile Headphones for Gaming

Oh, whoops, I guess the K612s would work in place of them. They're on Massdrop now.

Not for gaming, no.

They would be fine for gaming.

Since modmic seems to be mentioned around quite a lot I want to add to this.

If you are going to get modmic because its easy to use and relatively good at isolating background noise, then its fine.

But if you are looking for it to be a good voice activation mic or decent sound quality, then dont get it.

Modmic is too sensitive to any bumps you make to the cable and will activate voice activation in voice chat softwares unless you set it up so that you have to talk pretty loud to only register your voice for voice activation. And sound quality is meh.

I went full round circle from headset -> headphone with pro mic -> heaphone with modmic -> headset for gaming.

And which one did you like the most for gaming?

If you are going to use push to talk, such as in-game voice chat in CS or Battlefield, then headphone with pro mic was the best.

If you are talking about mumble or other voice chat software that you want to use it as voice activation, headset.

Ok, I use Mumble a lot, so this really is a criteria for me.

Do you intend to mainly use voice activation? Then headset seems to be the best way to go.

If not get a separate mic, preferably a decent one, and get used to push to talk for much better voice quality, and much better sound quality from your "proper" heaphone.

Audio is audio but some headphones have a bigger soundstage and more defined mids and highs therefore better for positional audio in games...

Ok, so talk to me about the 612 soundstage and mids/hights.

I compared with the K712 since they don't have the 612 in there but it shouldn't be too far off.

As you can see the 558 is way more neutral all across and it has lower bass which is perfect for games as they tend to overwhelm the details.

Now look at the difference with the Q701: http://graphs.headphone.com/graphCompare.php?graphType=-1&graphID[]=2861&graphID[]=2931&scale=30

Both the 558 and Q701 have a very similar sound signature and the Q701 are known to be better, probably because of that treble peak at 6,000-9,000hz.

Edit: Now compare that to the AD700 which are THE best gaming headphones ever: http://graphs.headphone.com/graphCompare.php?graphType=-1&graphID[]=2861&graphID[]=2661&scale=30

You can see that the bass is pretty bad BUT its perfect for gaming as you can hear everything else so much better.

Pretty sure that the 612 is not far off from the 601/70x signature.
