What Linus does.

Hello, I am a fellow PC player and I woud like to ask what it takes to do what linus does. I can edit, create and render/upload my own videos but I need more knowledge/money/sponsers to really get something like linus' channel going. NCIXcom is another channel that linus hosts on and i'd really like to be something like that as a job (maybe not exactly on NXIC because they're in USA I think, and i'm in AU)

What i'm asking is what do I need to be part of a channel like linus/NXIC? Do i need any degrees in university? Currently in school there are no subjects specifically for pc hardware, only programming and media, which im really annoyed about.

TLTR; What subjects/courses do I need to do to do something like Linus does where he posts videos and gets sponsorships etc. I would love to do something similar.

For "PC hardware" if there is any degree, it would be electrical engineering, an electronics course ...

Get a viewer base. Get connections. Get sponsorships. Pretty much that, generally in that order. Not sure why you would need to have a degree to review computer components...

So what we're saying here is I have to grow a youtube from scratch? Damn i'm too lazy. I'm sure Linus took forever. I don't really have alot of money to review any products and it would take a long time, however it could be done. I would like to be a host of NXIC or something similar and work in an office like they do, that sounds awesome, to me :)!

yeah im sure a lot of people on this forum including me would like linuses job however we dont see everything, im unsure about how much money he gets and how stable his financial situation is, he does spend a lot of money and im not sure if hes in debt, these are very real things so you do have to think of the negatives of this sort of job but more importantly how you can find a solution to those problems.

Linus has no qualifications, he has connections, then a few more viewers, then sponsors, then a whole lot more viewers.

Technically his fanbase is his qualification. This being the internet, whenever/if-ever he's wrong about something, thousands of nerds with nothing better to do would point it out.

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

Not to mention the excellent production quality on his build guides, the recent surround gaming guide was excellent. Loved that intro.

:o well i dont have to make a channel i could just host or join another channel.

You could start by becoming an editor in a website, like techoftomorrow or technobuffalo, and eventually ask if you can appear in videos

Edit: Also, why don't you ask? Send them a PM and tell them what would it take for you to become a part of their team

If you want to work more in the technical side of things (editing, producing, filming ETC) then try taking communication at university/college/TAFE.

Normandy - Intel Core i5 3470, 8 GB Corsair Vengenace LP, EVGA GTX 960 SSC, Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H-MVP, WD Blue 1 TB, Seagate 320 GB (steam), Seagate 320 GB (experimental, second OS, etc), Windows 8.1 + Ubuntu 14.10

Garrus - HP Stream 11

So what? You want to work for retailer, computer shop or repair shop? Thats what NCIX is. They created youtube channel for advertising purposes. Same with Newegg. Or do you want to be journalist/reviewer? Like magazines and tech sites? Or just another noob trying to get into tech world? You say you are lazy. Then you propably won't end up with much. Writing for bigger sites, like those who actually pay salary monthly or for each article. They have deadlines. You need first some experience and portfolio with articles or reviews before getting recruited. And even more experience before you get sent free samples.

So what I'm saying that if you want to do something like Linus, you need to start it by doing things with what you have now. Or what you are getting in near future. You need to be at edge of technology, getting new things and posting about them mere weeks after launch. Otherwise its old news really quickly.
