1TB drives have the best GB/dollar

what is the best ssd to get considering dollar per gb and performance (more concerned about iops than sequential)

Generally up to 1TB, double the capacity doesn't mean double the cost, so the 1TB's will be the best GB/$, if you can afford them. GB/$ will go down the lower the capacity, but it won't be that substantial

Most people here would recommend you getting a Samsung EVO 1TB or so.

If you are just going to load an OS on + programs than that'd be plenty.
