Is this a good PSU?

Go to solution Solved by quan289,

Yes, the EVGA Supernova 1000w P2 is a reliable PSU. It's a design that is among one of the best on the market, ATM.

It's not 1000W but it's still SuperNOVA P2,... + any 80+ Platinum PSU will be good no mather what, because after all it is 80+ Platinum

I don't think that's a good statement. Just because my PSU is Platinum does NOT mean it's reliable. It just means it's power efficient.

80+ rating merely indicates efficiency, nothing else

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

But doesn't it take the PSU to be reliable to even make it to the 80+ Platinum rating?

Utilizing certain topology design can enable a power supply to be highly efficient, but due to that, it can potentially allow manufacturer to do some price cuts on some components which in turn negatively affect the reliability of the unit. An example of this would be the Antec Signature 650w (Bronze) and Antec Earthwatt 650w Platinum. Despite the lower efficiency, the Signature is a superior unit than the Earthwatt Platinum in respect to design, build quality, electrical performance, etc. In fact, the Signature is capable of outputting up to ~850w while still be well within ATX specification.

How many graphics cards are you running?

I get 60 frames at 1080p on a dual core APU. Ask me how.

GTX 780 or a R9 290. 1 for now, going to add 1-2 more down the line

You don't need a 1000W PSU. If you will be adding another graphics card then get a 850W PSU. Trust me, more wattage is unnecessary.

850. My friend, graphics cards use a maximum power consumption of about 300W each and that's only when they're running at 100%.
