Neon Genisis Evangelion

You forgot these two from NGE:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1ruDaAthnU

Komm Süsser Tod is one of my favorite songs of all time. Pretty sure a version of kanon is in it as well.

Oh there are so many anime with great soundtracks. One show that really surprised me was Astarotte no Omocha. It has some great songs in it.

All of you (on Dropbox because it's not on YouTube)

(the ED song)

I am tempted to

has A
. I see that as cheating though because the entire show is about music... and drinking tea.

Panty and Stockings had pretty good music. Most of it in English as well.

(how many references do you recognize? There are at least 25)

Toradora has a bunch of memorable songs. Not only are the

and EDs (Orange's lyrics are very related to the show by the way) very good but the background music as well.

Startup

Lost my pieces (when the other instruments join in at 0:35 I always get sad)

Sora iro no Houkago

Yasashisa no Ashioto

Nah, it's definitely A Certain Scientific Railgun/Magical Index. There's like no bad music in these shows.

A Certain Magical Index

That fourth Magical Index video is my favorite anime opening, just saying.

Nothing quite like an orchestra you can head bang to.

Yuki Kajiura - Canta per me - From Noir (time stamp is 1.23.35 if you're on mobile. Sorry this vid is the ENTIRE 2008 concert...which is worth watching.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ghqWW5DuZwc#t=5015

Yuki Kajiura - Salva nos - From Noir (time stamp 1.26.57. same vid as above)

9mm parabellum - Wanderland - From Real Dive. Awesome drums.

If we're talking about a soundtrack that fits the show, Madoka Magica movie 3 Rebellion takes it hands down. Have not heard anything that more perfectly fit every moment.

As far as awesome standalone soundtracks go, my favorite would probably be Kill La Kill.

I'm preparing for a world of hurt here.

I just think asking which Anime has the best music is like asking what fast food restaurant has the best champagne.

No disrespect to Anime, although many of you will still think that I do,

but films and series, have in my personal experience, always had the upperhand in soundtracks.

Artists like Hans Zimmer, Yann Tiersen or even John Murphy, together with so many others have made good films in to great films.  Just plain songs like Dont You Forget About Me were made legendary in films.
