Hello, ive just ordered the parts to a new pc and i want to factory reset my old pc, because its really slow.

But, the problem is that ive lost the win 7 home premium CD, is there any way for me to factory reset my pc without having the CD.

Also, i bought a new win 7 home premium CD for my new pc, will i be able to use that on my old computer to re-install the OS, and not lose the valuable windows 7 key, that im going to use on my new pc

(also, the windows 7 disc, is probably a DVD, not a CD, but anyway)

Before resetting your PC first try defragmenting with Piriform Defraggler, running a virus/malware scan, do a boot-time scan if you have avast and use Piriform CCleaner to clear your temp files and other stuff like that and clear your registry of errors. Also Cleanup the startup if it takes a long time to boot.

If after all this your pc is slow THEN you should consider factory resetting but mind you it might just be HDD degradation/CPU degradation.

my biggest problem with my pc right now, is that ive installed so much during the years ive had it, and its full of games that would take years to uninstall using the uninstall manager, and some doesnt even show up there

Get CCleaner. It's better than uninstall manager.

Use Windirstat (download it from ninite.com to make sure you have the right version) to find out what is taking up so much space and where it is, manually delete it then run a registry error fix (CCleaner has one).

Honestly you'll have to jump through a hundred or more pieces of software to get rid of all the crap, then you have to get rid of all the crap buster programs. D:

Linus uploaded a video the other day on how to install Windows via usb or you can use the Windows upgrade assistant to download the files.

Hello, this is my second attempt at getting an answer, this time im going to simplify the question and get right to the point (i dont have time to wait for an answer on the old post)

Can you use a different Win 7 home premium CD than you orginally installed the OS with, for reinstalling the OS, or is each CD bound to a specific win 7 key?

Yes you can. You can enter a key during installation.

sorry, but i was desperate and i thought that it was worth a warning post, which it still is.

anyway, do you mean that i cant use a different CD if it is a OEM key, and what is a OEM key?

I used the one I have to install Windows on multiple machines since the other CD I had was scratched. It works.

and the win 7 code, that you entered when you first installed the OS is still saved on the hard drive, even after a factory reset, right?

if not, then im in trouble, because i dont know my code :P

oh shit! i dont have the key, it went with the CD, are you sure its not saved on the hard drive or something, because ive heard that its bound to the PCs hardware after you first instert the code

No - I don't think so anyways. My situation was I had two W7 keys but only one disc. So I just used my W7 disc from another machine to install the OS onto my desktop (the W7 disc was an OEM disc, so I guess it automatically had a key put into it, or something.. I can't remember D: ) and put in a different W7 key.

Windows would install with a 7-day (I think it was 7 days anyways) period to put in a Windows key. If you don't put in a key then Windows will constantly promt that you're running a non-genuine version of Windows or something along those lines. Not sure what else it'll do, or won't let you do.
