They called it the One because it wont red ring, and consumers will only have to buy 1.

Really? My brother's got fixed when it got red ring of death and when it got it again they gave him a brand new one.

 

They call it the one because kinect is always on.

Yes its a stupid name but it kinda makes sense when you think about the direction they are going for the console.  The one piece of hardware you need under your TV to do everything.
